It was nice chatting it up with a fellow Vols fan at Travis AFB today. There’s just a small group of us in the Bay Area that meet occasionally for the games but I’m sure there’s more out there.

I was at Disney World in early December and across the way saw a Vol fully geared up in orange. I would have said HI but a great chasm was fixed and there were too many screaming children and obese on rascals between me and him I couldn’t quite make the journey. Then it poured rain I hope he survived the stampede.

I was at restaurant bar last month and a guy had a Tennessee hat on and I hollered "Go Vols". He looked at me like I was crazy. So I said, "Your hat, it's the Vols." And he said, "Oh, I don't follow them, my daughter goes there." I promptly had him thrown out....

This has happened to me on more than one occasion in my travels. I’m always like you SOB. You got my hopes up and then crushed them.

In Washington state several years ago, wearing proudly my orange, I ran across a woman who was a great admirer of the Vols. They 'r everywhere; everywhere...

One of the gifts my wife and I give ourselves is occasional house cleaning service. Last visit, one of the two women who normally come was sick, so the other brought her daughter - who was wearing Vols gear. She married a Volunteer, who happened to grow up in Paris, TN maybe 10 miles from where my dad grew up in Dresden. Small world.

edit - should have added, we're in Maryland.

I see fellow Vols pretty regularly here in Oregon. And I have seen them all over the country and overseas.

A few months ago I was walking into the local Costco when what appeared to be a father and his three young sons suddenly walked out of the store exit right in front of me. More than one of them was wearing some kind of UT gear. I said to the guy, "Hey, Go Vols!" He looked like he was either pissed-off about something, in a hurry -- or both. He glances back at me and says, "go vols" -- just about as quickly and as dispassionately as you could possibly say it. He almost sounded irritated that he had to say it. But he said it anyway, so I took him for a true fan.

We were in Maine this past September. Surprisingly enough, we ran into 9 groups or couples there.

Never fails. Walk into the Holiday Inn lobby on game day and holler Go Big Orange and people will look at you like you've got 2 heads.

I travel quite a bit for work and normally sporting Vol attire while traveling. Many times either in the airport or the town I’m in I’ll run across a Vol brother or sister. Always greeted by a “Go Vols”.

I may also know either the person from Paris or Dresden as I’m from McKenzie originally.

A few years ago on a small island called Vieques off the coast of Puerto Rico my son and I went down to the waterfront to go on a dive trip with a local fisherman. We get there and the guy is wearing a Threadbare faded UT t-shirt. I was wearing my UT hat and hit it off but suffice it to say I was kindof surprised. Long story short there was a large naval base ( no longer there ) and he was friends with some Navys guys from Tenn. and loved college football. I left a couple of WAYYYYY to big UT shirts with him and took some more next couple of times I went back.

A few years back was in upstate New York for a couple of week. We went in a local Sams Club wearing a Vols pullover. Heard a “Go Vols” across the isle in that deep New York “forget about it” accent. He played basketball on scholarship at UT in the early 60’s. I wasn’t familiar with him but he said he still tries to go “home” for 2 or 3 home games a year. Eating pizza one time at Johns Pizzarea on Times Square with a Vol shirt on ran into a group of folks at the next table COMPLETELY donned in Vol attire. We had a great discussion! Go to the beaches in Florida or Alabama and if you don’t see Vols everywhere something’s wrong!!!

My family and I were hiking in WA state and ran into two different folks repping Tennessee; It was awesome. We chatted for a bit then moved on but great to see fellow Vols out and about vs. Bama fans who sit at home wishing it didn’t hurt so bad to get off the couch. 🤪

Last summer I was in Jamaica with my girlfriend. We went to the south coast of Jamaica and there is a bar built probably a half mile to a mile off shore in the ocean on a sand bar. We were out there drinking on this super sketchy bar and ran across another vol fan. It was a cool place to bump into someone. I’m a student at UT now.

I was in Disney in October and saw a ton of people repping our Vols. Also last February on a cruise out of Jax there were a ton. Everyday on the main deck was like an SEC war zone between US, UGA, Gators, Bama and Auburn fans. I’ve never seen anything like it. I caught a lot of hell for my hats and t shirts. I’ll always sport my Vols stuff, but I’m ready to be able to chirp back a bit.
