Another tiresome coaching thread.

Saban was 6-6 his first year at Alabama and lost to Louisiana-Monroe. Did Shula drag down 'Bama further than Jones did UT?

Of course, Saban went 12-0 the next year, so he's got that going for him.

Completely missed the point.

My post was in response to the other poster saying a team can't win with a bad O line. It's difficult to be sure but teams can compete even with O line problems.

Had Lincoln not had 2 FG blocked, Kiffin would have knocked off a Bama team that ended up undefeated and winning a national title.

That 2009 team had the Sullins twins, Cody Pope. Chris Scott, and Vlad Richard among others on the O line. Not exactly household names.

White knight for these head coaches all you want by bringing up the same tired talking points that we saw with Dooley and Jones but there are plenty of examples of teams actually winning games or being competitive in games they shouldn't win.

Kind of like the Titans example McDad brought up this weekend. Doubt many were expecting a win with Blaine Gabbert under center.

Interesting you used confidence. Vrabel in his interview said the team was confident because they all bought into the game plan against the Texans (or something along those lines).

What do you think has stolen the confidence from our guys?
IBJ stole their souls prior to going to BAMA and gave them to Satan as a blood offering.

Idk OP. I starting to reconsider my stance. Vrabel has Certainly earned his stripes these first 3 weeks. Has had great game plans and doing good with management and x’s and o’s. He has also shown he knows how to close. Not sure I have much positive to say about CJP at the moment.

The Titans seem to be united as a team and believes the plan Vrabel puts together for them. Been fun to see.

I am in the Pruitt must prove it camp before I trust his coaching ability. This has created some tension and many straw man debates on VN. While I agree his DC pedigree is impressive, I'm not yet sold on him as a HC. Also, I know he gets 3 years or more even if he isnt the right man for our job.
I dont expect this year to be a miracle turnaround. I am not anticipating a strong season. I dont believe that expectation is unfair to CJP

I agree he needs to "prove" it as a HC...but....we need to still try to be supportive and realize he's going to make some mistakes. He's a new HC coach and he's going to grow too. But the style of play I see from him I like--it's just not executed very well. The talent isn't elite in some key spots (LOS). If we can stay positive and keep playing hard we can have a great 19' recruiting class. I like the way I see our freshmen play too. To me that's one of the best indicators of our future.

To adequately explain my position, I wanna draw a comparison to the Titans game yesterday. Titans have a new to head coaching, first time coach. The team had several key people out for the game. But the Titans came out fighting, prepared, and energized. They pulled out all the stops. And, imo, Vrabel simply outcoached O'Brien.

That spark or hunger or enthusiasm (whatever you wanna call it) is exactly what I want to see from a CJP led team. It isnt about winning right now, it is more about the way this team is playing the first 3 games.

I dont believe that expectation is unfair to CJP or the Vols.

TIRESOME...…………….YES, for goodness sake what will your ilk be by this time next year! Why not just jump now and make it easy on yourself.
TIRESOME is a polite word for Bull***t.

I think he is trying to get his players on board with his mentality, which is that of a winner. I believe Butch’s leftovers have a defeatist mentality and he is trying to overcome that. Probably why he is so eager to play freshman. They may make mistakes but they don’t have the same expectations-or lack there of that Butch’s old players do.
The tweet whats him names sent out, posted in another thread suggest he isnt trying to.get his guys in that mentality at all.

So very true, like I said, when I played sports, you as a player either had it or you didn't, you didn't need the coach to pump you up.

Adrenaline was all you needed and it could work wonders
You can tell if a guy can coach or not during the first year, fundamentals and execution improve game over game. So far the jury is out.

There is allot of truth to your post
