Another shooting... nothing will change

Most guns purchases are not for self-defensive. I think more guns are bought by hobbyists or hunters.

In fact, I would argue that a big dog is a better defense mechanism than a gun. Barking has been proven to scare away most attacks/burglars and prevent encounters in the first place. You are also a lot less likely to face any penalties if a dog bites/harms an attacker versus if you directly shoot them.
I think you're at least somewhat correct in your assessment if we are only talking rifles. I think a significant portion of handguns are purchased with SD at least somewhat in mind. (And by definition if intended for carry)

Dogs are great but off the table entirely for a lot of people for any number reasons. Even a little dog that would be almost useless as a "guard" dog can be useful as an "alarm" dog.

72% cite self defense. And no a dog isn't better at self defense than a gun. Give me a break

I’ll take a 12 gauge over a dog

Nobody buys a sub compact for hobbies or hunting. If you shoot the criminal then nobody has to worry about scaring them away again or putting their dog in harms way.

Yeah, I can agree with about everything you posted :).

Its a good thing a 22 year old intern runs the nationwide division that monitors the internet for warnings like this guy gave for months before the attack.

For anybody with Twitter can search what he said. This is the left. It’s too bad to be posted. Looks like he likes them young

"The solutions benefit both sides. There is no reason Republicans and Democrats alike should not support them. The problems are real for everyone, and the cures would make the country safer for all. Yet agreement never comes. Could it be that, for some, it is more politically useful to leave the problem unsolved — to keep the blood flowing so it can be used to justify a cause? I hope not. But if that is the case, it would be nothing short of monstrous."
