Manifesto and planningWestman posted videos online that included a handwritten manifesto, featuring disturbing writings and diagrams of the school's interior.Hale also left behind detailed writings and journals that included a diagram of the school, suggesting months of planning.
Online statementsWestman's online posts and manifesto included extremist views, such as antisemitic and anti-police comments.Hale's motivations were complex, reportedly stemming from personal issues, but also included resentment towards the school.
Outcome of shooterWestman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.Hale was shot and killed by responding police officers.

be interesting to see the trend lines in:

1. gun access over time
2. mental illness over time
3. institutionalization over time
4. mental illness related drug prescriptions (though this will be highly correlated with #2)

all compared to change in mass shootings (the school/business type - not some gang bangers shooting each other).

my bet is that #2 is going to be the strongest correlation and #3 will be negatively correlated. #4 would be interesting to see if the effect is significant after controlling for #2. I'm guessing #1 will have the lowest correlation but still be correlated.
