ANOTHER (perceived) RECRUITING VIOLATION...allbeit minor

Be patient. 5150 will not be around much longer. I base this on his message board record/ experience. His lack of curiosity when it comes to knowing/ learning anything about the job of a head football coach so that he can post intelligently about it. His lack of discipline relative to communicating his thoughts. His baseless arrogance. The fact that his father is the only reason why he is here.

Too many nitpicky rules in the NCAA. If anybody looks at all 3 incidents, it would be stupid to say that UT got any recruiting advantage whatsoever. However, calling a recruit while on another team's campus is not a violation. :)

AMEN brother!!!!!! :mf_surrender:

Nice!

You're not going to start using my own words against me tonight, are you? :)

By the way, may I call you VD for short? Everytime I think I'm rid of you, you just keep flaring back up! :birgits_giggle:

It all boils down to how nitpicky is your own enforcement office. As I understand UT has some pretty by the book people (good) which report every precieved violation weather it is or not. Other schools (Al, UF, LSU) must have a more liberal reporting standard.

Not to mention the whole Knoxville press is still PO'ed CPF was fired and a young go getter not beholden to them has taken over. They (Knoxville press) are out to get thier pound of flesh instead of supporting the new coach.

Fresh off two secondary violations, Lane Kiffin seems to have done it again. Today (Friday) on Knoxville radio station WNML with host Dave Hooker, the Vols coach made a comment about prospect Bryce Brown. Kiffin was commenting about the momentum in recruiting, when one great recruit picks Tennessee, that opens the door for more and more top prospects to pick UT. Here's the quote that should have the UT compliance office talking with the SEC folks here in Birmingham, Kiffin says, "Great players like Bryce Brown are going to announce"...

This is Recruiting 101, easy stuff, you never mention a recruit. NCAA rules do allow you to say that you are recruiting an athlete, and you can use his name, but the violation comes when you make even a one word comment on his talent...in this case the phrase "Great player like Bryce Brown".

There should be no penalty, and Tennessee will be able to keep recruiting Brown (who was scheduled to visit Knoxville today) However, a large number of secondary violations does become a problem if they continue to stack up.

The Dunaway & Brown Radio Experience

just another bullet in the gun for 5150

It's not a coincidence that Lane mentioned the name of the number one recruit in the country the weekend of his visit. Now everyone in Knoxvile is talking about it. There will be 22,000 fans chanting his name at the basketball game tommorrow. They might even have a parade down cumberland avenue for him. It was brilliant of Lane to get the fans fired up about his visit. Lane knew it was a violation but did it anyway. Richt had 17 violations last year, Urban had 14, Lane has 4. They might put us on probation for 10 years for this one. ha ha ha. He'll gladly take the secondary violation in order to land a player like Brown. Lane is the most talked about coach in the country. And Tennessee is the most talked about team. Everything Lane has done, he has done as part of his plan to make Tennessee football relevant again.

You guys don't understand that winnng football games is what makes a football program "relevant". The only thing Kiffin has done is make everyone wonder if the UT administration made the correct head football coach hire. Yes he has made folks notice UT, but it has not been good press.

Nah, I just found your words so profound that they bore repeating.

No I don't live under a rock. Everybody didn't know Bryce Brown was visiting this weekend. A few hundred people on a message board isn't everybody. Since this will be on every news show in town and will be on the front page of the sports section tomorrow, will be mentioned on espn, foxnews, cnn, and will be the only thing people are talking about on local radio. I have to say that everybody will know. Which is what Lane was after. Bryce will be like a rockstar around Knoxville this weekend.

Thanks Mike. I knew you had a plan.

BTW, when you get fired at the end of the year, make sure you take Lane with you.

Take off the orange sunglasses and cut back on the kool aid. This was another mistake, not a publicity stunt. The publicity we are getting is not good publicity. CLK needs to think before he speaks and stop embarrassing the University. This is turning into a train wreck.

It's safe to say that we can thank the media for turning secondary violations, which are minor things that every school in the nation commits, into grandiose stories that the average Joe thinks is a heinous crime.

Easy to see everyone is on pins and needles. And everyone around here thinks Lane should go into a shell. Well, that ain't going to happen.

i'm not a kiffin basher by any means and obviously hope he succeeds while he is here. but he hasn't looked professional at all the last few weeks.
