Another NYT Article... HostessGate Part II

The thing with easterwood is just piling on extra manure to a crap story. I don't think Kiffin is crazy enough to have Adazio recruit where it would be so easily seen.

Agreed. He and his editors know that they could get hung out to dry in regards to the original story. What's the best way to make it go away and still sell a couple more papers? Keep piling on so the original story is out of the news cycle and the attention goes to other aspects that are so general that they can't be refuted.

Here's hoping he steps foot in East Tennessee...soon.

Mr.Thamel did change one thing about his article. Instead of traveling 200 miles it is NEARLY 200 miles.

Wow, you took one subject topic and ran with it didn't ya?

I don't know how abortions relate to any of this at all.... or politics in general. It's just a writer with an obvious agenda against either Lane Kiffin or UT.

If he wanted to be fair, he would also have written about Urban Meyer trying to get the University of Florida to offer Carl Moore's (JUCO WR last year) girlfriend a gymnastics scholarship to lock him up....

I didn't see that in the New York Times....

The Wizard of Odds: NCAA Recruiting Violations by Meyer?

Sorry, it just really gets me really really really really angry sometimes. I was going to write a lot more, but I won't. I'll try to keep on topic.

I really hope that when all of this clears up that the TRUTH is written in the NYT or even ESPN. Makes me sick with this "journalism". These people don't know the lives they're affecting.

Hmm I just read about a new issue. One of our recruiting interns, Steve Rubio, is being looked at for possible violations. Apparently, he went with Kiffin to St. Thomas Aquinas where he graduated from high school...It was published by, you guessed it New York Times News Service...Anyone else hear anything about this?

I find it weird that now when HS football season is over, that all of these allegations are coming out. Isn't there a freeze time where coaches can't contact prospects? I think the timing of these allegations are very suspect and someone should do some research on where these allegations are coming from and their sources. JMO

Learn how to speak to women, and you wouldn't have such a problem there Keith.

I was at my Alma Mater three months ago too, but the NYT didn't write an article about me.

I've been to 6 of my alma mater's games this year. On top of that, I wore UT gear to most of them.

I apologize in advance if UT lands on probation as a result.

You can't be serious, that's just as foolish as writing a story in the New York Times without any plausible evidence. You've got no facts Homer. Guess you didn't hear one side of the story where the two girls were invited to the game by some players. Oops, forgot that huh?

lmfao where are your facts? i mean, they have pictures and everything to go with their article...

this is a trivial situation to publish, and it could be a conspiracy to make u guys look bad, but sooo many universities throw pussy at athletes...why were yall the only ones to get caught? u gave them the easiest case to make..

Byrnes isn't their alma mater.

I know LPE is from Murfeesboro. Not sure about the black chick with Corey.

Neither here nor there really. The girls are allowed to go to Alaska to watch a HS football game if they want. They can wear dresses and hold up signs there, too.

Only possible violation = coaches paid for their trip or advised them to take the trip.... the first would be a major violation, the second would probably get a few schollys taken away.

This is not the first time he has accused someone of NCAA violations. Current NBA player Thaddeus Young was once a member of his AAU team. Thaddeus decided to go to another team with several of his teammates, and wham, Easterwood started accusing Young and his family of having improper contact with Arkansas boosters while on a recruiting visit.

This is the guy that started the whole Bruce Pearl in the next Memphis coach rumor. Some might remember that he is the coach that pulled all of his kids from the TN basketball camp bc Nike told him to go to the Memphis camp (heard him say this on the radio). Most of the HS coaches with any dignity consider this guy trash. He regularly just pops up on local sports talk. Most of the time, it really seems like he does it in an attempt to "leak" stuff that maybe a college coach can't say. Stuff about recruits and what not. He always trashes other AAU coaches saying that they are all dirty but he acts like he is a saint.

As far as his son goes. I have to question this whole FB recruiting stuff. I stay pretty current on recruits in this area, and I can not recall hearing about this kid for the life of me.

A picture doesn't mean it was necessarily anything more than acquaintances(at minimum) going to observe a football game...there's no facts out there saying they were financed or were sent by the university. The sign said something along the lines of "Miller and Willis have our hearts" not "Come to Tennessee". This entire article just seems like a stretch to me. And pertaining to the bold...Oh, I dunno maybe because we have a brash head coach who has stepped on others toes? Possibly a little payback and bad media attention as revenge. Who knows.

They are not talking about the girls.

Easterwood is a frequent poster on Memphistigers.org, where there is a current thread on his comments in the NYT

I heard about this but didn't see anything...

I saw it on the Chatt. times free press site. I just thought I would mention it to see if anyone else had seen it. What's with NYT's vendetta against UT? I mean wow.. This has got to be driving Kiffin crazy. Let the man work. We still got a bowl game to prepare for.

Did anyone else notice that in the latest article, Thamel, completely misrepresents the comments of Brandon Willis' father?

From GVX earlier this week:
Miller said his son and Willis parted ways with the two hostesses after the game. Miller said Byrnes players met for a post-game meal as they usually do.

From latest NYT article:
Gary Willis, Brandon’s father, said on Tuesday that his son had had no contact with the hostesses, although running back Marcus Lattimore, who also plays at Byrnes, said in an interview that the players had been expecting the hostesses.

Nobody claimed they weren't at the game. We knew they were at the game. The picture proves nothing, other than the fact that the sign did not say "Come to Tennessee."

Not worth hitting the link and giving this Syracuse grad, who was a soph when beat them in 97 any props. He is infamous for posting an article and following up with held back info

:horse:

I'm tired of this topic. The NCAA needs to be in Southern California adding up Reggie Bush's salary while he was at USC.

Or maybe they could've spent more time on Urban Meyer recruiting a female gymnast to UF (it's illegal to recruit other sports) because her boyfriend was a bigtime JUCO receiver (Carl Moore).

True story.

I guess the NY Times didn't hear about that one.

First of all, Thamel has no journalistic integrity. He reported this as quickly as he could without firm facts so he could have his name attached to a national story.

He stated the girls showed up in Vol gear waving a sign around all night that read "Come to Tennesseee".

As it turns out, the girls only busted out the sign for pictures. They were wearing neutral color dresses and were only there long enough to watch the game and snap some pictures. The players were already committed, so there was no persuasiveness to the visit at all.

If the NCAA wants to do something about it they should ban all hostesses from attending any high school football games. I'm sure that would go over real well.

I just want to know what would happen if I decided to go to a game with some signs to recruits. Would the NYT post negative "stories" about me?
