This kind of stuff makes me proud to be a Vol!

Darrell J. Boykin, Columbia, S.C.

On Oct. 27, I attended the University of South Carolina vs. the University of Tennessee football game. It was a hard-fought game that South Carolina was extremely fortunate to win. It was another heartbreaking loss for UT in a year of disappointment on the football field. However, the Vol nation should be proud of the great display of sportsmanship shown by the Tennessee team when the undisputed hero of South Carolina, Marcus Lattimore, sustained a gruesome injury to his leg during the game. After the hit, while the doctors were attending to Lattimore, both teams gathered around him on the field. It was a touching display of respect and caring that you rarely see on the football field. My respect for UT grew exponentially that Saturday. So as a fan who has seen his team struggle mightily over the years, I would tell the Vol nation to be proud of your team. They represent you well.

Waiting for someone to spin this into an anti Dooley thread...

I am very proud of the teams actions. Those are the type of things that fans remember forever.

I teared up when I saw his face. I felt so bad for him and I pray that he recovers and fulfills his NFL potential.

I am happy to hear that we made a good impression. I hope our fans did as well. I remember sitting at Vanderbilt when Aaron Hayden's leg got broken. From our vantage point, it was obvious what happened. The Vandy fans around us were actually cheering and high-fiving each other. I have never forgotten it.

It was bad but Lattimore is a tough dude. A lot of prayers and thoughts went out for him and it really made me proud to be a Vol. There are days where I have no hope for this fan base but then there are days like that.

To a speedy recovery for Mr. Lattimore

So was I. Did you see that leg pointing the wrong direction? Looked like Freddy Mitchell from UCLA a few years back or Prothro.

i remeber when prothro went down...man that kid was one of the best recievers i ever seen...he had play of the week almost every week on espn

I remember in 07 (the last time we beat Bama.) Somebody got hurt and was down for a while and the bammers there started singing and chanting while he was still down. Then it sounded as if every UT fan there started chanting f***k you bama. That year the bammers we re disrespectful every chance they got.

Well...best I remember Dools wasn't out there with the team...so it's obvious he's lost them. :)

It was one of the classiest moments in UT football that I can remember (and that's decades of games and memories).

I'm very, very proud of how our players handled that incident. :hi:

Dooley was too busy trying to call a timeout for too many men on the field.
But I was proud of our players and the respect they showed Lattimore.

#74 looked like he was about to cry..

I think a lot of us did cry. I absolutely HATED it that it happened. I HATE injuries to anybody. It reminded me of Willis MacGahee's injury. Not so much the gruesome part but just the timing of it all. There are so many good, young men on these football teams and to take away their dreams like that in an instant it's simply heartbraking. It's great to hear that USC fans appreciate Tn and i haven't heard of anybody calling it a cheap shot. At least i haven't seen it. People probably did. i think it was a rough incident. Proud of my vols even in losing. They are good people. And so are many, many other players and teams around. They are human.

Yeah, shows the true class of Vandy fans.
