Another Government Shutdown Thread

HA! Bernie just called the ACA a "horrific situation."

So, basically, rather than fix a system he himself calls broken, and which he acknowledges doesn't work, he wants to throw more money at it.

That is why I can't take the Ds seriously on this issue.
But the Libs on here talk about how great it is and how it works so well.

What else could they "win"? The GOP isn’t going to restore the subsidies to the past levels. All they can possibly actually get is a vote on it, to let people know exactly who it is that caused the increase in premiums.
"The bill we forced down everyone's throat that we promised would reduce costs doesn't. And we need billions in subsidies so the electorate doesn't realize this. Oh and we negotiated an end to these subsidies but now need to extend them bc it's gotten worse then we thought."

But yes blame the GOP for your terrible idea

You guys criticizing the change made 20 years ago are wasting time. We are where we are.

If you don't like the ACA, replace it. You've had control over both houses and the presidency for extended periods, including now. And the GOP offers no replacement, just whining about what was done decades ago (that gave Obama a victory you just can't stand.)

Well they did offer one and it fell short by one vote bc McCain was a spiteful corrupt man. But that bill sucked too.

Why can't Dems admit that their bill wasn't what it was claimed to be? Why can't they come out and say "yes what we passed is actually not working and is way more expensive so we need billions of dollars so you rubes don't get mad at us for making this absurdly expensive."

And I have no problem giving Obama credit for this. And I'd guess any Dem being honest wants to make excuses for him. What a laughable legacy

Translation:

" we made a mess of things. Why haven't the GOP fixed our screwup?"

It doesn't matter and shouldn't cause you and the GOP to be so obsessed with taking the victory away from Obama's legacy. Fix it, replace it. Just killing it does neither.

It's not a victory. It's failure by him. lol. Which I get it now. You all know it's stupid and not working. But you won't support fixing it bc it takes away a "fake" win by Obama and his legacy. Wow. Thanks for accidentally showing me what's actually going on with the Dems

On intial thought, I'm in favor of what is being considered in terms of giving a payout to citizens instead of providing subsidies for insurance. From my own personal experience, my insurance has increased dramatically and for the most part... I've never really had to use it. So I've gone from paying a reasonable $ amount for something I rarely use, to now paying a hefty premium for something I rarely use.

I'm fortunate to be relatively healthy and try to stay in reasonably good shape, so this would just put more money in my pocket to use at my discretion. And... maybe... just maybe... others receiving money might realize if they would eat healthier and take better care of themselves, then they would have more money to use at their discretion instead of having to use it to pay for their poor health.

And as an added benefit, I would much prefer people receive this money instead of insurance companies. The combined profits of the six largest for-profit insurers more than tripled from $16.9 billion in 2010 (when the ACA was enacted) to $60.7 billion by 2021. Their combined revenue grew from $245.2 billion to over $1.1 trillion in the same period.

His stupid tweet about direct checks to Americans from tarrifs to help cover healthcare costs is already getting traction with some Dem senators.
If tariffs are bringing in money like they say could some of the revenue from it be used to help with the healthcare cost.

Well all that tariff money is about to disappear bc the SCOTUS is going to rightfully rule Trump doesn't have that power

Second we have over $30 trillion dollar debt. We shouldn't be handing out money period
