The 20 post rule is a great start.

Another thing that I think would help eliminate a ton of trolls would be a 1-2 day waiting period between signing up and activation of your account. I know there are a couple other SEC sites that do this.

It would eliminate (or at least slow down) those people who are strictly here to talk trash, i.e. during NSD or during that whole Orgeron deal.

Anybody else want to weigh in on this?

I don't like the idea. From the perspective of a new user, it's likely a deterrent from joining to begin with.

I have seen that on one of kentucky's boards. It really annoys trolls, and I'm all for it.

There are so many impulse posters that show up on this site and every site. IMO If they really want to be here then I think it's worth a 24 hr or two day wait...but hot damn, you get the award for best avatar creator on VN. You continue to pump out hits

I think you should have a basic Vols quiz before you join. You get 10 questions. If you score 70% or below, you're account won't be usable.

Or, at the very least, a quiz of the team you root for.

I think everyone should have to to submit a blood sample if they want to join. If it's not orange then their application is denied.

Mine would have mostly orange, but a touch of USC(real) Cardinal and UNC Carolina Blue.

I think a waiting period is a great idea. It would definitely deter the impulse posters and trolls.

The blood test sounds good, but i am not going to lie. I have enjoyed reading the troll bashings. However, that has run it's course. My sleeve is rolled up and waiting for the needle.

If someone really wanted to join Vol Nation, you think their account being activated in 24 hours would be a deterrent?

Not likely. When someone signs up, you say to them "an email will be sent to you within the next 24 hours activating your account." Then they post, and everybody's happy.

It could, however, eliminate the people who just are trolling around one night looking to talk trash.

I think a waiting period before you start new threads is OK, but people should be able to post immediately.

Yeah, I want to weigh in on this...Very simple, just make Hat and BPV. a MOD and the rest will be history. :)

Do you have to provide a valid e-mail address when you register now? I can't remember. I don't think I had to activate an account.

I really don't know if I like the 48 hour thing between signing up and activating, but if we don't have it setup to where you do indeed have to activate your account with a valid e-mail address, than we definitely need to get that going.

The only thing I could possibly see working is that you have to wait 24 hours to post once your register and validate your account, but you can view the forums from the start....

How about requiring anyone signing up to endorse and accept some sort of Big Orange Creed?

It would require them to accept a list, akin to a statement of facts regarding the superiority of the University of Tennessee, and denouncing all other schools and former allegiances.

Nothing too heavy, but it would likely be effective. I wouldn't renounce Tennessee to post on another site.

If they agreed to it and then posted otherwise, they could be much more quickly exposed as the dishonorable liars that they are.

I would take input from all, but 3-4 members could lead in the drafting of the creed - i'd start with BPV, Hat Jay 5, and Sabanocchio amongst others.
