I have thought about this for quite a while but wanted to wait until the emotions from my attendance at the Florida game subsided to make sure of my decision. But I am sure. After 37 years, 10s of thousands of travel miles and countless lost voices, I am officially retiring from in person attendance at UT games. There comes a time for all of us when we finally recognize our diminished skills and abilities. After a few years of denial, it finally hit home for me recently and was validated from my seats in Neyland on Saturday. I can no longer will the team's performance like I once could. My pre-game rituals have become largely ineffective. And my in-game superstitions simply are not producing results anymore. Its time to make way for the newer generations with more innovative ideas and methods.

I have prepared for this for the past 3 years. I have relinquished my season tickets to more deserving fans, and I have started a second career as a fan of Sea Ray boating.

Its been a blast. I leave you with only one thought: Give your all for Tennessee today, and everyday.

I will still do that - but from my couch now. Take care.

But really, the most eloquently written "I quit" thread to date.

Congratulations…but a word of advice and or wisdom…you can ‘semi-retire’ and have it all….I did years ago…I still go to game every once in a while…but normally I’ll be doing something positively impacted by the Vols playing a football game…here how it works…

If it’s early fall and going to be pretty I spend the day on an EMPTY Norris Lake in my boat…and if televised only watch the portion of the game I choose…

Or

I cruise the Tennessee River seeing some old friends and spending quality time with them…watch the game from the water…

This past Saturday I had fun doing something completely non related to football but drove o campus at kickoff and double parked my old car leaving the keys in it and rode my bike to the river and joined friends in the Vol Navy to watch the game…

Just be creative and it can be done…

Someone leaves, and someone joins, either the circle of life that monkey was talking about, or someone is having an identity crisis.

That is kinda similar to what the Vols did Saturday nite..quit. I dont really give a s**t either way but it is kinda lame. Its like Lebron announiing that he is 'goin to take my talents to South Beach'

Me personally, I don't like to go to games very much anyway because I hate traffic and spending all day driving, when I could be watchin football (in HD), drinkin beer and havin sex. Now that's retiring!!! :dance2:

Go ahead and send me your tickets for the rest of the year. TIA.
