Annie Aldrete transferring

Fill me in here... You get released to individual schools? I thought when you're free, you're free... Obviously different from the juco I played at and DI.

All schools can place restrictions on a transfer as to where they can and cannot go. Usually it's based on who the team is playing on their future schedule, though.

You're right, its your team. There is a reason you win 80% your games (its players) and there's a reason you don't win championships(coache). So its your team. I will refrain from commenting further unless you insist on attacking me personally again.

:pilot: :whatever: Rant on, Terra firma!

This thread got interesting. So, I have read that Ralph cannot develop players, hurts their hitting. I have read that UT is a place where pitchers go to die. I have read about verbal abuse and about how our coaches need to change their attitude. All about two coaches who continue to succeed, go to 7 out of 11 CWS, and just had 5 double digit HR hitters who were all freshmen and sophomores (development anyone?).

I have no doubt that the coaches pushed players really hard, maybe even close to what some think is "abuse." I have no doubt that not every player that goes through the program will be happy and may leave. I have no doubt that the coaches aren't perfect. But they must be doing something correct to be so consistent. This is a D1 sport that is played at a high level. Pat Summitt wasn't always friendly to her players either. Results matter.

And you have West Virginia sooooo ....no I won't go there.

Its only there because my nephew got a basketball offer from them - he is just an incoming HS junior so it most likely will change -- AND I am trying to steer him to UT

know who the 4th school Annie can transfer to ?
The fourth school is Cal-Berkeley, her father's alma mater. If she ends up there, she will at least receive a world-class education from the nation's most preeminent public institution. Our former MBB coach Cuonzo Martin is there now...

Guys, we need to do the right thing.....I went and read this girl's twitter feeds about the death of her best friend. She is really hurting....

It's time we man up and wish her well and move on.

Agreed. Every player is different. Some more emotional than others. I think Aldrete is more of an emotional player than most. We'll never know how attached she was to this unfortunate Fatima girl, and the extent of how the latter's suicide took its toll on her. Aldrete was having a fine season then for some unknown reasons at the time she did struggle a lot later in the season. I used to have a best friend from high school too--we ended up being roommates in college for yrs, and I would treasure the memories forever. If I were a player playing the sport at the highest level with all the spotlights on me, and in Aldrete's situation w/ my best friend committing a suicide, I would have not been the same player as before. I would not have been able to handle the pressure as well as I should've I'm afraid. I would have struggled on the field for sure. I just don't know to what extent. Would it have made me to change my commitment and leave the program, coaching staff, teammates and all the fans who rooted for me, and opt to go somewhere close to home? Maybe. I just don't know. Probably not. But these are 18-22 yr old kids still maturing to the adulthood, and they still need parent's guidance and a lot of family support. I'm getting ready to let go of Aldrere now. I would pull hard for Aldrete unless we play each other. It's time for me to warmly welcome Abby Lockman and Haley Bearden to the Big Orange Country.

I didn't know it was a suicide, that explains a lot,I had a friend that decided to do that and it was around 20 years ago,to this day,I wonder what I could or should have done

being around family and friends helped, especially my friends that knew him, some things only family and friends can help with

Very true. I thought I was on the fence about why she left... But I went through her Instagram feed this morning. One of her first posts from her return to Monterey was of her at Fatima's grave. That speaks volumes to me. I dug a little deeper and apparently the two went way back. They were co-captains of their high school team. I hope she finds the peace she's looking for.

I hope she finds peace too peachstatevolgirl ,but I know from experience that it will never happen

and welcome to the board, just in case nobody welcomed you :)

Don't underestimate the effects that such a large incoming class had on Aldrete either; on paper there are at least two who could potentially challenge Alrete for the starting catcher position for the next 2 yrs -- Abby Lockman & Haley Bearden. Although Bearden may be better suited for playing 1B and not as talented, Lockman girl is a legit threat to Aldrete. She could easily match Aldrete's power at the plate and potentially turn out to be a better defensive catcher. Aldrete should be familiar with this situation since she happened --intentionally or not -- to be the one who chased away our returning starting catcher in Akamine from the program the previous year. In the end it was as much of a cold-calculated business decision as an emotional one that Aldrete was forced to make. Three mid-major schools that she was released to should tell us something about her state of mind as well...

I think there was a lot more to her decision than being worried about who they brought in as a catcher 2Alum

I have nothing to hide... and no axe to grind. I have spoken the truth.

When you tell the truth... the truth becomes part of your past!!!! When you tell a lie, it becomes a part of your future.

I can tell you who Deer Park is but he has asked previously to remain anonymous. He is without a doubt an insider.. knows all things UT.... works there... but he is a company man and doesn't know all the fine details that happens behind the scenes or in player/coaching meetings and in practice or amongst players... like a parent would.

I also know the poster Terra and contrary to what many may believe but he too is an insider with great knowledge of the UT Softball program and many of the stuff that happened with the team... great knowledge with emphasis added. I consider Terra a personal friend and I am personally thankful for his service to our Country.

I know some of you have been long time followers of UT and the Lady Vol softball program... but your love of the program has shaded your glasses Orange. Take them off a second and consider for a moment if what has been said is actually true... then what?

when my kids wanted to play team sports in school ( none at an elite level, :( ) I only had a couple rules. They had to stick it out the entire season and they couldn't ***** & moan about their coaches. And, they had to attend every meet & practice.

That got us thru 2 girls in softball, one in golf and my son in little league bb & track.

I hate know it all "wanna be star" parents...

The thing that is so puzzling is his daughter had a great career, was a great Lady Vol, a great citizen and ambassador for the program, but apparently not good enough for him and it was Ralph's fault.

If 99% of the parents knew their daughter would have a career and success like that at Tennessee they'd all send them here. Not him.

Melissa batted 4th for the OC Batbuster..one of the premier travel teams in the country. We traveled 4 hours each way from fresno to orange county for 4 years to play on the team... probably 1,000 kids easily who wanted her spot on the team but she was good enough to bat 4th and set their home run record while playing for Doug Myers and then Gary Haning.

Melissa was offered a full ride her sophomore in HS to play at UT and had another half dozen full ride offers... UT followed us to every major recruiting tournament to ensure we picked UT... We were recruited hard... told she would start day 1 and play 1st... they were moving erin webb to 1st so the spot would be open for her when she got there. Melissa had the size, speed, good arm and could hit for power and average.

While at UT, Melissa tore her ligament holding her patella in place and had a severe bone bruise on her left knee her sophomore season. The fall of her junior year, she tore her labrum in her left shoulder... needed surgery but was told she had to play through it. She wore a brace for the first 2 months of the season... finally took the brace off and raised her average 100 points... she was batting 4th the night in Missouri when she broke her hand in a collision in the plate... she had a plate and 9 screws in her left hand... was out 3 weeks and returned to the WCWS. She was on base 4 out of 5 times against Rickets from Oklahoma at the WCWS... had a walk, hit, FC, reached by error, K and a stolen base in the 12 inning game against Rickets and had 1 of 3 hits the team had against Gasgioline in game 2... she had shoulder surgey during the summer but was reinjured and tore the labrum again heading into senior year during the fall.... played her senior season injured... became 1st team SEC, 2nd team all region.... finished her season 5th on the all time home runs list...

Yes... She wasn't a wanna be great player.... she was a great player... 4 and 1/2 years on full ride.

So go talk some more crap...
