Ralph and Karen seem to work well together. Would not like that combo to break up.
Know nothing about a Shipman problem. She looks really good handing out the Skittles.

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;

If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Go Ralph! Go Lady Vols!

Really? Such know it alls on this site.

Pot, meet kettle. At least I actually know what I'm talking about the vast majority of the time. Unfortunate that you can't say the same, isn't it? You'd rather spout off about stuff you know nothing about. People just seem like know-it-alls to you because you don't know your rear end from a hole in the ground.

Ralph will coach as long as he wants to coach

I don't believe anyone said otherwise. And I don't understand the WCWS comment by you. (It's 7 out of 11 seasons, BTW.) Nobody stated the coaches didn't do a wonderful job this year. But a former parent themselves just said that Karen was more instrumental in the run. And said former parent is FAR from the only parent that thinks Karen is the better coach. And I hate to burst your bubble, but I'm pretty sure they're a lot closer to the situation than you are.

It's strange that anyone would think that, given their age difference, Ralph will not quit coaching before Karen. Karen may quit coaching when Ralph retires, but I don't think it's that likely, and if it happens, it isn't because she can't succeed without him. It will be by choice. With that being said, if Karen quits coaching she'll probably go back to being a lawyer, as there will have to be some kind of income.

You're just an odd duck, SandVol. I really can't figure you out. If you're this annoying in person I'm betting you're a pretty lonely guy. And once again you and gule hanging around together again. I swear I wonder about you two sometimes.

Everybody was talking about what a masterful job the Weekley's did to get the team to the WCWS this year with all the youth and we get all this crap on this thread. Bunch of sorry asses.

I have first hand knowledge... I lived it for 4 and 1/2 years... like I said... Ralph is a great recruiter... but he recruits great players and very few / if any improve... get better than when they got there... player development.

My daughter was a great hitter coming into UT ... batted 4th for the bat busters but Ralph changed her hitting mechanics, swing... and virtually destroyed her love of the game. My daughter wanted to transfer after her sophomore season but was blocked by Ralph... She was wanting to walk away from softball than play for Ralph another season. Fortunately, our local school... Fresno state was hard hit economically so they were not accepting freshman students or academic transfers... she was denied the athletic release but couldn't even walkon at fresno... otherwise she doesn't finish her last 2 years at UT.

Not to mention his tactics... you don't get kids to perform at a high level by telling them that they are no good and will never play again.... if in fact you want them to do well and perform... My kid was never verbally abused before so she started to shut down vs getting pissed off and kick azz....

Speaking about the masterful job... did you hear them talking about how UT's lineup constantly changes.... Melissa batted in every position except lead off as I recall... the good teams usually develop a lineup and keep it... players get into a rhythm

did not opposing pitchers/coaches get a read on your daughters swing? once they figure out how to pitch to you, you either change or you fall to the wayside. maybe Ralph was trying to help her?

case in point, Ryan Howard of the Phillies, was an all world hitter for about 2 years, then they got a book on him and every pitcher he faced got him out on the same pitch. He's never adapted.. :(

Actually The beauty school thing is what UT put out, lost her passion etc. People on this site just regurgitated the information. My point is ....just like the evening news. Don't believe everything you read from one source. Tennessee has its hands full. If Dobbs, Hurd, 2 d-linemen and starting LB's left no one in Knoxville would settle for UT's press release. There's public, and there's the truth...or at least something closer. I happened to run into Akamine at a tournament. Doing great, loving life. Someone stated that Ralph and Karen will be there forever, and that's probably true.

I see. Honestly I didn't look for her anywhere because of the info I was told (by someone on this board).

THIS is money, and not the only one. I am not sure how much longer California will be a pool of players for Tennessee. Who knows.

they were constantly changing her but it started the moment she arrived..

her senior year... Mel was leading the SEC in hitting when they went down to Texas A&M on a Friday night... Mel batting 4th in the order... the first 3 batters struck out against Pitcher Fox... Mel leads off the 2nd and hits a smash between 3rd and short and was thrown out at first... Ralph yelled at and bench Melissa for the remainder of the game for swinging at a first pitch change up...

Melissa started the first 45 games in left field her Senior season... then Ralph moved her to DP for the last 11 games and moved Overstreet to left... Mel had 4 errors on the year... 2 at first that should have been errors on the throw and 2 in left... one ball was a base hit that she bobbled to pick up and runner advanced and one was on a throw to the plate that was playable but error given to her... Mel was 1st team all SEC, and all region but did not earn an all American because 1) Ralph didn't promote her and 2) she wasn't considered a position player at year end.... playing DP

Overall maybe not, Ravenne went 0for in the WCWS finals. One significant fact is also those hitters are all lefty's a little "easier" that's why lefty's are recruited. Shipman started 0for last year, then settled in, then they quit pitching to her. Plus....her dad is a wiz with her. they tried and tried to change Shipman...."never saw a pitch she didn't like". Right handed hitters have a significant disadvantage. You see a right handed hitter who hits very well and that's pretty darn rare overall. Good hitting slippers and lefty's are common....not to say those players weren't awesome, they were. Especially defense...every one of them.

Didn't see Lauren Gibson, Raven Chavanne, Madison Shipman, or Meghan Gregg have any trouble hitting the ball.

so, your dd went against her coaches instruction( don't swing at a 1st pitch changeup) and gets yelled at and sat down? oh the horror! What would you have done as coach? Tell her that it's okay, just do what ya want out there? :(

So your all fine with paying over $300,000.00 a year in Knoxville for your two coaches ...for over 14 years and you get 1 SEC championship, and 1 shared SEC championship. Meanwhile in Tuscaloosa, meanwhile in Gainesville. Then there is no argument if no one cares.
