Annie Aldrete transferring

I don't see why there would be more to it Terra, players come and go all the time, for what ever the reasons are, there young women and who actually knows why?

I'm sure if the Weeklys were being uuuuh mean or what ever to the players,we would have heard something about it

Madison Shipman came back as a coach,so if there were doing something unreasonable,I highly doubt she would have came back to UT,I'm sure there are other colleges that would love to have her services

This smells....Sorry folks but there is more to this. Also more to Akamine transfer(remember how UT stated she wanted to pursue beauty school?), Tobler transfer, Lewis concussions...then graduates and comes back. Watching the Supers last year I actually thought Koenig was going to kick a coaches ass. Kids disappearing during the season. Nearly 100% of these players have a high GPA, stable homes, very social, and obviously very talented. So what's the problem?? Its a bit of a mess, good luck. It's too bad, the fans in Tennessee are great and you deserve better.

Tobler left because Long Beach State offered her a full scholarship. My understanding was she did not have a full one from UT.

I'm disappointed in Aldrete, frankly--and I'll admit my disappointment is all the greater because she is arguably the team's best player! I won't deny that. If it were a backup player, I wouldn't care much--some, but not as much.

Still, I find the homesick argument to be weak. This is obviously an emotional decision and not a rational one. She not only made a commitment to this university and this softball program--but she is a key part of both. So she's going to chuck all that--her teammates, coaches, friends, her chance to win a national title--because she's decided, after two years, that she wants to be closer to her family? She's halfway through college now. You go to college to grow up and be independent, no? It doesn't make much sense to transfer now. If your family is important to you, you can move back to California after graduating from UT in two years. What, is she going to go to another college that's 5 minutes away from her old neighborhood? I just find this to be a weird, weak decision for a rising junior to make.

kids will keep making dumb decisions, generation after generation.... mine own kids have proven that....

the latest just got her nursing degree and has "decided" now that she doesn't want to be a nurse.. She should have figgered that out $180,000 ago.... dammit!

I don't get it ether armchair, she may have been on the home sick side before her friend passed away,so it is hard to tell what happened

that may have triggered her decision to be closer to home ,but we probably won't ever know

It doesn't matter why she's leaving. It's her decision. If she doesn't want to be at UT, both parties are better off if she leaves. I wish her the best and will miss her greatly. Good luck and God speed Annie.

Akamine had to be begged to come back every year she was with the team. She didn't want to be in college and didn't want to be a college athlete. From what I was told she was pressured into it by her family because her older sisters were both softball players in college. AFAIK she is in beauty school now which is what she wanted all along.

Tobler was a recruited walk on to UT. She went where there was money, which also happened to be much closer to home for her. UT simply didn't have much money for her at the end of last season. I don't think they envisioned her performing so well in 2014.

Lewis left, from what I was told, because she was burned out on the game. (This has been talked about this season publicly.)

Annie will probably end up at Arizona State...I believe her younger brother is going there to play baseball in the Fall...Hopefully it happens because I would have a favorite PAC-12 team!! And guys people transfer all the time...Let Annie go home she gave everything for this school and team for two years!!! Some of these comments are just making me smh....Thank You Annie for playing here at Tennessee you will be missed but I will be cheering for you at your next school!!

AkMine was starting catcher for Oregon St. This year.

The catcher position has at least one top notch freshman coming in.....We will be OK in that department, but none of us wanted her to leave.....As stated in another Thread, she will not be the only girl to leave the team....A lot of talent coming.

Look for Annie to show up at Cal Berkeley... Taylor was all but gone after last season... Spoke to her father at super regionals in Oklahoma... Look for others to leave... not enough money and kids are being reduced with a large class coming in next year... only 11.7 scholarships for 20 kid roster... in reality... Basketball has 15 scholarships ( I believe) for 5 starters & an 8 man bench... softball has 11.7 scholarships for 10 starters ( pitcher & DP) and another 10 on the bench... doesn't seem quite right!

Re Annie... Friend passing away is the public reason being offered for her transfer... easier for the fan base to accept than being unhappy with staff... always more to it. Hearing grumblings that Shipman may not be back. just saying.

Re: Tory... the concussion excuse and story about finding her at the Alumni game in the fall is a partial truth. a lot more to the story here. The coaching staff did not want Tory to return in 2014 and wasn't until the fall when they were looking at the team when they decided they could use her with just one senior and a young team.

Ralph is a great recruiter but lacks greatly in his coaching skill/gamesmanship and player development.. UT should make him HCE to focus on recruiting/if allowable by NCAA... turn the reigns over to Karen completely... and hire Shipman as hitting coach .... she was instrumental with the kids this year... or hire a proven hitting coach.

he/they have won over 1200 games together. Why would you want to break that up? :(

Taylor didn't produce on the field (batting). She has no one to blame for her lack of playing time late in the year but herself.

I was told this as well. I was surprised when she returned, TBH.

I don't have much of a problem with the 15 schollies for basketball, even though most coaches don't use them all. I've always thought baseball and softball should have more. Especially since sports like equestrian have way too many.

I wasn't told that they didn't want her for 2014 but was definitely told there was more to the story.

TBH, however, I can't see there being that much bad water under the bridge if she agreed to return, and she will be a GA next year.

ITA on all fronts.

How is Mel doing? I hear today is her birthday. :D

Ralph is signifigantly older than Karen. He will retire much earlier than her.

It's a widely-shared opinion that Karen is the better coach between the two.

Didn't see Lauren Gibson, Raven Chavanne, Madison Shipman, or Meghan Gregg have any trouble hitting the ball.

Really? Such know it alls on this site. Ralph will coach as long as he wants to coach and Karen will be right there beside him and they'll continue to take teams to the WCWS like they have done 7 out of the last 10 years.
