android (phone)

I have had a Droid (Verizon) since November, I love it. And although I have never used an iPhone, I believe I would prefer the Droid from the reviews I have seen (mainly Flash support, which needs to hurry up and get here and physical keyboard). But where I live, you have to go Verizon so AT&T is out of the question, along with the iPhone.
I would probably wait for the Nexus One if you don't care if you have a physical keyboard because it is a better phone. But I will sacrifice some processing power for the keyboard so I can use Snesoid and Nesoid (play Super Nintendo and regular Nintendo games).
Other than those, OrbLive is great if you have a TV tuner card installed on your PC, this means you can watch your cable TV live from anywhere you have a 3G connection. This is a must have for me.
Also really like Pandora, SportsTap, PhoneMyPC (control your home PC from anywhere), Homerun Battle 3D (really addicting), and Twidroid.

I have used a WM6.1 phone and from it I would never go back to another Windows phone. Android is so much better.

I'll be switching to verizon and getting a droid soon. Anyone know if there is an app that has a food database that lists nutritional info?

The iphone has one that has several thousand foods listed which help people who need to carb count. But I don't want to get at&t.

Right now I carry a book (Calorie King) around to count, would be nice to carry one less thing around. TIA.

My wife had the Eros for a week and hated it. Mainly because of the lack of a keyboard. I returned it and bought her a Droid which she loves but greatly under utilizes. Her brother has a Droid too. He is a big tech head and thinks it is much better than a Blackberry. I would never get an IPhone because I think ATT motto should be less bars in more places.

Well I don't use any, but I did a search in the marketplace and saw quite a few that were highly rated. A few cost a a few bucks, others were free. Like I said, since I don't use them I'm not much help, just letting you know that there are some available. Hope this helps.

Nice. As long as there is something that can be similar I am good. Would be a huge plus to get apps that compare or are better than iphone. I know its out there for iphone but don't want to get at&t if I don't have to.

Thanks for the info.

Blackberry had an app which would take you straight to a website after you searched. I'm sure the Droid has similar apps. I wouldn't be concerned about that. There are tons of apps out there.

But would you have to access the internet to view the info? I was looking for more of a database thing with the stuff listed.

If you get a Droid you have to have a Data plan anyways, it should take you directly to the correct page you are looking for.

To get something like that with a "database" like you are referring to would probably take up a ton of memory on your phone. I doubt there is anything like that.

The Dare only supports a couple of very specialized types of videos. In the end, Youtube is about all you can watch.

(You can also watch .3gp videos, but standard websites don't do that format. It works well with your home computer and Orb though)

OK, as of right now, it won't replace the computer for enjoying Volnation, but it will be nice to post from work when I get a chance.

I haven't figured out how to get to the last post of a thread on it though. Any tips for that?

Here's my two cents:

I personally have Verizon, carrying a moto VeMaxx Razr. Very good phone for a regular feature phone. Not normally a Moto fan. Have researched droid phones for several months now. Haven't been able to decide between the HTC Eris or the Moto Droid. In my area, all new Eris are already updated, so alot of the complaints about locking up an others should decrease. However, like the Droid, it is still basically a PC so will need rebooted occasionally as it is not a linux system. Each have their features to offer and comes down to personal choice. Keyboard/faster processor vs. more streamline/more custom screens, etc. Although I prefer a keyboard having had a BB for work, I liked the Eris better. Have played with both ALOT at the store. Haven't developed the need to pay an extra $30 a month for the data package and that expense is not in my job hunting budget so it is on hold.

Bottom line is whatever Verizon has to offer. I had an ATT BB on one hip for work and my verizon phone on the other. No comparison in coverage, reception , service. Although, I am very ticked at them right now. $9.95 a month data package to upgrade my phone. Seriously? They have two phone with identical features except for one. One is listed as a smartphone and charges extra $9.95. Other is listed as simple feature and requires no add on. Can't get the standard LG workhorse flip phone now w/o the add on data. They need a lawsuit in a bad way. My MaxxVe does everything a Env3 does and the Env3 now requires the add on. They've only done this since they cut their unlimited package price. Alltell sure looks attractive.

anybody running 2.1? im still waiting on my OTA update.. very impatient and frustrated haha
I got my update on Friday. I read they are doing 200k updates each day and it will take 5-10 days to get them all done.

If you want a good Droid forum check out Droid Forums. I got my Droid about a week ago and have been addicted to Droid Forums ever since.
