And the starting QB is...

Having posted this, I still would get the other QBs in the game. Sometimes people don't practice exceptionally well but are lights out when they get in live action.
I say go back and watch the games from last year and watch how many 2nd and 15s, 3rd and 15s and 1st and 20s we had that got converted. After week 4 it was much more regular.

Also per SI article:

Still, Pruitt has given Guarantano a dramatically longer leash than pretty much any other player on the team. Pruitt has been quick to pull players for under performing or making mistakes, and this has resulted in Guarantano being benched. Still, Pruitt has been quick to put Guarantano back into games, even when his replacements were more effective in the offense.

“even when his replacements were more effective in the offense”

This is indefensible.
Can you post the link for everyone to read?

Edit: It was already up and I found it.

No, Maurer started bc JG had a broken wrist and they were trying not to use him one handed. Who played in the 2nd half of that game you’ve mentioned, and led the come back?
lol. You're right! How could I have missed JG throwing the ball 8 times and getting two TD's in a miracle come from behind win against a Kentucky team who had a WR as a QB. I honestly can't believe I missed how great JG was during that game! He led the comeback!! lol. Maybe someday JG will have a winning record as a starter. If only he could play teams like Kentucky every week, and only have one half of play count.

He has benched him before and will again if he feels someone gives us a better chance to win...... who do you want him to start?
JT Shrout, JG has hit his ceiling he isn't going to get any better. He is what he is, when all things are equal you go with the younger player.

Shrout throws a beautiful deep ball but he looked awful when given his shot last year..... what makes you think it is equal? I feel like Bailey will be the heir apparent but that got messed up with all the covid stuff

True.

Too bad they aren't equal and JG is better than the other qbs.

Bailey is the only one with a chance to overtake him whenever he gets ready.

The other two just aren't talented enough.

I'm not sure Bailey will ever take a snap at UT.

JG might be the best in practice but in the games its the round peg/ square hole theory, it's just not working.

No, Bailey was an EE so he knows the offense. I don't believe Bailey will play a down for UT but that's just me, I have no inside information so don't take that as fact. In Shrouts 1 true opportunity he did great 7/11 122 yards and 1 TD, word out of camp was he looked the best and it wasn't close.

He has been better than the two others who played in games. We have stats from last year.
In Shrouts one true opportunity against SC he did very well and he disappeared after that. I want to see Shrout get a chance, nothing against JG but Shrout seemed solid. I'm out on Maurer, I think he has the tools but lacks in the mental department

But he played in a few other games. 3/9 and 3/6 with several turnover worthy throws. He threw a ton of ints even in HS.

I don't think either backup protects the ball well enough or is accurate enough.

There are plenty of examples of teams playing a true freshman at QB and it work out better than expected. Especially if they are one of the top prospects in the nation. I remember a young man named Peyton and recently a pretty good qb named Trevor holding their own. I don’t buy the “not ready to play at this level” jargon.

Hard to judge him on the UTC game, first outing.

UAB, I remember that game he made one bad throw that should have been picked off and he was yanked. Pretty unfair considering JG/ BM both made ill advised throws but got more time. Do I think JT is a world beater? No, probably not but I am saying I would like to see him again.

You like him bc he is the back up QB..... JT gets pulled quick bc he makes the same mistake in practice..... Pruitt is a football guy..... I doubt he will play a guy without thinking he is the guy that gives him the best chance to win games... As for HB being an early enrollee..... it didn’t help as much bc spring practice was cancelled

I like Shrout because I see a lot of upside in him

Shrout could be a gamer ( some guys practice well and play poorly, some guys practice poorly but are lights out on gameday )

I don't buy into the missing spring practice, I don't think this staff has any intentions on playing HB at all. I think they're rolling with JG to draw another name in here for either a 5th year transfer next year or they think Salter is the future.

I've always thought Shrout was the best option at #2. Again not at practice and the coaches are!

If o-line doesn't perform any better than last week, JG will probably play the entire game. If they improve, and JG plays bad...you'll see another QB go in. JMO....

JG has 4 interceptions and 3 fumbles in his last 5 starts. That's not exactly Mr. Ball Security.

Yep and UGA the only top 25 team of the five. 4 fumbles 3 lost and 1 interception
USCe, Missouri ,Indiana, Vandefbilt
He will do well vs UK its a middle of row SEC team
We are middle of row team as is JG
We need a QB to make things happen a true DT win some not supposed to and help recruiting. If not, we are going to wandering the Desert for 40 years 13 down 27 to go.

Curious, what will it take for JP to pull JG in the Kentucky game? We have found that three turnovers is not a make or break factor.
