OK, gonna tip my age here, but back in "the day" Charlie wasn't considered country at all, he was southern rock, along with Wet Willie, Lynard Skynard, 32 Special and the Allman Brothers

Yeah your old I only go back as far as 38 Special! Was 32 any good?

My personal preference would be the Pride of the Southland playing it. I'd like that better than hearing ANYBODY sing it.

Well considering its the Outback Bowl , I think Olivia Newton John would have been a better selection!

Daniels is a good American-Tennessee patriot. A whole lot better man than the Hollywood trash who do not even know the words to the National Anthem.

He has made several trips to visit our overseas troops. Just a MAN who knows the "score".

Cool. 4 pages of discussion on the National Anthem singer. Must be an off-week.

Daniels sounds good to me. Who cares if it's been a while since he did anything significant? He'll be remembered a lot longer than 99% of the worthless music that is out at current.

Yeah... I like Charlie Daniels... I probably wasn't born the last time he had anything significant but... for all you that would rather have someone else... be glad it isn't Paris Hilton, Justin Timberlake, or Kevin Federline... :swoon3:

I'm jealous. We'll (Texas) probably have someone singing the National Anthem in Spanish at the AlamoBowl.

By the way, I'm pretty sure CD is a pretty big Vol fan. I have his last CD in which he does a takeoff of an old John Wayne bit called My Beautiful America. For those unfamiliar, it is an extremely patriotic number in which he says, "have you ever..." followed by listing great things about America.
For example, "Have you ever eaten crab cakes on the shores of Chesapeake Bay. Have you ever watched a sunset on the shores of the Pacific Ocean?"
Anyway, at one point in the song, he says, "Have you ever seen the Mighty Vols run throught the 'T' to play a football game?" Even I get goosebumps and I'm a casual Vol fan.

(Disclaimer: the above quotes from the song are by memory. I'm probably off of the actual lines.)

Crap, if they'd follow the Anthem with a little "Rio," I'm all over that!

Why are any Vol fans talking bad about CD? He is an amazing performer, and really loves the Vols. He has written several songs about the Vols, including Voluntears. Which refers to his love and how he wants all teams to be crying Voluntears when they play us. I for one am happy with the choice, and figure he will have some sort of Vol clothing on when he sings.
