granted Athens isn't as easy on players as Tuscaloosa is, but Athens is hardly tough on their athletes.Athens cops have always had a hard on for athletes, it goes back before Kirby. Athens is a very liberal town and the government apparatus doesn't protect athletes like in Tuscaloosa.
I've lived in Georgia my whole adult life and have practiced law in the State for 20 years and that is just simply not true. ACCPD is famous for targeting athletes, students really in general, for anything and everything. UGA athletes get arrested and taken to jail for alot of stuff that is normally just a ticket. Richt used to have like 6-7 players suspended the first couple of games every year. Steve Spurrier even made a joke that it was the best time to play them. Spurrier retired in 2015, pre-Kirby.granted Athens isn't as easy on players as Tuscaloosa is, but Athens is hardly tough on their athletes.
it is still very much the tip of the iceberg stuff that gets out, and it was really only the deaths that brought the level of scrutiny they are currently under. And I don't think its the city at all bringing the attention really, I think its all the journos who know they have a story talking up another Georgia player getting in trouble. APD would love to get back to sweeping things under the rug.
thankfully I don't think the attention lets up until Kirby wins another title, winning trumps everything; or they can go at least a year without lots of issues.
