And now Sumlin says nope

I cant believe I am even saying this but does anyone think they talked to Sumlin when they did knowing he wouldn’t take it but because there was beginning to be some mumblings about not interviewing someone who wasn’t white? Ugh I hate to even bring that up cause it makes me sick but the timing is suspect honestly

I don't care if the coach has polka dots. If he can win and stay out of trouble I'm in. I assume the great majority feel the same way.

Butch Jones destroyed UT football.
I tried to warn yall.

Read the article in the other thread - doubt we offered him what he thought he was worth and / or wouldn't fund the $$'s for him to bring in the assistants he wanted.

A coach is NOT going to come here if he doesn't think he can win.

Because Sumlin was fired, he needs a job to prove himself again. He is not going to take a job where he feels either the atmosphere or the $$'s available to him will lead to failure.

I’d take Sumlin over Kiffin all day long. Nobody’s scared of Kiffin. He’s been a loose cannon at every stop and a marginal to below average head coach.

Could he suddenly and unexpectedly get drastically better at his next job, maybe. But right now, he would be laughed at more than he’d be feare

Need to check your facts, 44-24 as a head coach with a 30 scholarship hit his first year at USC . Agree he can be a loose cannon but that might be what is needed now.

Fired by the Raiders, walked out on UT after a pedestrian 7-6 record, ruined USC and they fired him, Saban couldn't stand the guy, and he's doing pretty good at FAU which is like doing pretty good playing driveway hoops against a bunch of 10 year-olds.

Which of those facts do you dispute?

It doesn't spend because AGAIN, coaches don't want to deal with meddling incompetent administrators. The only decent coach who will want the job with Currie around is probably Les Miles and Currie apparently doesn't want him. You guys went ape crazy on social media to (rightfully) prevent two bad hires. Go crazy again to put pressure on the decision makers to sack this idiot.

You left out bad fans are also hurting getting a coach.

According to Gottlieb. No interest.

We probably haven't even contacted him to even gauge his interest. With Currie's future up in the air, it's going to be hard to get a coach when his bosses future is in question.

Sumlin is waiting on the FSU job - ESPN claims they will hire a minority and Sumlins name is on the list

If true, on to the next one.

I would like to throw another name in the hat for your coaching search. First let me say I am a die hard Miami Hurricane fan. That being said I have no reason to dislike the Vol Nation and what they stand for. As a Hurricane fan, I can sympathize with what you are going through. We had 3 absolutely terrible coaching hires in a row, that led to 15 years of total ill relevance in football. Prior to this period, the program was again rising toward the top of college football. The person responsible for this rise was Butch Davis. (No relation to your Butch!) He came in after Dennis Erickson led the program down a very bad path. Butch had 31 scholarships taken away and in 5 short years rebuilt the program into what many believe was the greatest group of players ever assembled. He is a great recruiter, evaluator of talent and player development. I will say, I did not always agree with his game day coaching though. I'm not saying he is the best coach out there, but he offers a lot of bang for the buck. I believe he would come in at a very reasonable price in order to get back to a major program again. He wanted to come back to Miami, but when CMR became available he was passed over. Butch studied under Jimmy Johnson for 15 years and learned how to win at very high levels. I would like to close by saying my wife and I had the pleasure of attending a game at Rocky Top. When the Canes came to town a few years ago, we were there and had a great time. All of the people treated us very nicely and when you're a Cane fan that can be a rarity. I would like to extend my help to any Vol fan, should they ever return to Miami for a football game. Our group is very respectful to visiting fans that are not named gator, nole or buckeye. You would be most welcome to tailgate with us. I wish the Vol Nation all the best in their coaching search, the upcoming football season and in life. Go Vols and Canes!

Welcome to the world of made up insider info.

Butch Davis has to much baggage associated with his name. With where we are, we can ill afford to have that. Love Mark and what he has done to the Hurricanes.

Again welcome and thanks for the invite, the wife and I love Miami.

That's actually not true. Currie had Mike Leach lined up today to get the job, but was slow played by the administration and was asked to fly home. Likely scenario is Currie will be let go this evening and replaced by Fulmer tomorrow.

You called it Vin Man, well played.

So some of those coaches not in play for Currie could once again be in play.

I find it hard to believe that the coaches that are currently employed, were contacted and declined an offer, would have a change of heart now that Fulmer is at the helm.
