Coach Kiffin,

You don't know me. You've never heard of me. You wouldn't know me from Steve Spurrier, except that I'm the quiet one in the group, and would beat him by four strokes, on his course. Anyhow...

I was a Vol before you were born. I was born and raised in the shadow of Neyland Stadium (okay, in Powell, but that's still really close). I'm 13 years older than you, and I have roughly 36 years of seniority on you when it comes to being a Vol fan.

So..for just this once...please hush and listen.

I, we, us, most of VolNation, if I dare say so, are very excited about you and your staff, and the promise you bring to UT football. For the first time in a long time, there is an air of excitement surrounding Tennessee Football (yes, both words should be capitalized) that hasn't been there in...well, it's been awhile. Too long.

You clearly impressed Mike Hamilton, and you impressed most of us in your first press conference. I've watched that thing 5, 10...maybe 50 times. I'm not the only one, I would venture to guess. I watched you speak...I watched your eyes...I listened to your words, and I thought to myself "We have a winner. Passion, knowledge, energy, and great bloodline." I knew, I just knew, we had finally hit the jackpot.

Then you went out and put together a coaching staff unlike any seen before in the history of college football, save, except, perhaps, for Southern Cal, back when you were there. And it's close. We have Monte.

After that, you had the moxie, and integrity, to shoo away a couple (and that's about all we had at the time) of top-shelf recruits. You told them the truth about where you were headed with UT Football, and they opted to seek greener pastures. I, for one, had to applaud your honesty.

Oh...and then you still landed a consensus Top 10 class to boot. That stuffed a sock right down the throat of many of your early critics. And rightfully so.

Then, bless your heart, you stepped on a few toes. Spurrier...Meyer...Saban...Pahokee...some limo driver. All but the limo driver, and the people of Pahokee, had it coming. You ruffled a few feathers. So what. You weren't hired to be the UT envoy to the SEC. We just fired a good one. You were hired to win football games, and so far, you certainly seem to be headed in the right direction to do just that.

You're 34. I have socks older than you. You have a great pedigree, and a great track record (I, for one, am ignoring Oakland. Since Madden left, I honestly doubt if General Patton could win a water balloon fight working for Al Davis). You're a winner. That's why you're here, and that's the promise you bring to UT Football.

I do have one small suggestion. Think "acorn and oak". Your Dad is one of the most respected and revered coaches in football, at any level. His presence alone immediately elevated the UT Staff to "Grade A+". His accomplishments more than speak for themselves.

Let your's do the same. Don't stoop to the "Meyer and Saban" level. Urban Meyer, for all his accomplishments, will bolt for South Bend if the money's right, and just ask the folks in Utah about the lies he told there...and in Bowling Green. Saban has already abandoned Michigan State, LSU, and Miami. The clock is ticking in Tuscaloosa. Spurrier? His best days are 20 years behind him.

Three great coaches, no doubt. But three coaches who left a lot of "burnt earth", and bitter fans, behind them.

You're better than that, and your best years are still ahead of you. Just ask your Dad.

Now go get 'em.

Go Vols.

It's just so rare for coaches to stay at one school and coach at a very high level longer than 10 or so years.

If he's plucked up by a better college program or NFL team, that means he's done something pretty good here, so that's fine with me. He probably would leave for the pros.

One would think that whomever UT hired as head football coach would be an "oak", or at least smart enough to know he is an "acorn". Kiffin is already a legend in his own mind, so you're wasting your breath.

Nice post though.

i wouldn't be upset at all if he won a national championship here this season and bolted for the NFL with his entire staff.

Lmao... UT coaching staff isn't that good.

Good recruiters - yes
Good game day coaches - None besides old Monte has proven anything anywhere they have been.

FAIL

Oh, and your opinion means nothing to me, lg. You might be a "poster" on VolNation...

But you will never be a member. Not to me.

Just like the zebra can't change it's stripes...the Gator can't keep it's mouth shut.

Go Vols.
