I'm sorry.

I've been pretty harsh with visitors to these boards from other fan bases: gators, dawgs, wildcats, brother-husbands (bama fans), and so on. And I've gone beyond good-natured digs, to downright hostility ('seriously gtfo' kind of disdain). It wasn't right, and I'm sorry.

Why did I do that? Well, one big reason is because there are a surprising number of trolls, also from those other schools, who pretend to be Vols fans on these boards. I despise people like that. And that will not change. I'm not apologizing to the trolls, not even remotely. They suck.

But I let my vitriol for what Behr calls the "gator-vols" extend to the honest fans of other schools, too. Shouldn't have.

The other big reason is, I've always thought of vn.com as a "he man woman hater club" kind of club house. You know, the kind of place Spanky and Alfafa had, where they could keep the girls (mostly) at a distance. I thought of volnation as an orange-blooded private clubhouse, "members only" kind of thing.

But I got to thinking about it the other day, and a more useful analogy is to Neyland Stadium. At Neyland, when I run into a fan of the other team, I welcome them, ask how their visit has been, kid around with them, a little teasing but all good-natured. I want them to enjoy everything about their trip--except the outcome of the game.

And so why not here? Why not treat visitors the same way on vn.com?

Blinding flash of the obvious, right? I mean, most of you do that all the time.

Okay, so I've been a mental midget about all this. So I apologize. I apologize to folks like @Jaws and @bamawriter and @99gator and @Lawrence Wright and @LittleCat and @ZippyMorocco and all the others I've told once (or a hundred times) to gtfo. I'd like you to stay, and I'd appreciate if you could forgive my rudeness.

Not you, IknoxvolsI, you remain a troll and need to just die under a bush somewhere.

I also apologize to Freak, the mods, and my fellow Vols fans who have had to put up with my unreasonable stance. You're mostly better people than me (not you, Bearded), and this proves it.

Mea culpa, please forgive.

Go Vols!

Well spoken. I personally try to ignore the trolls and idiots, but there are some you mentioned such as 99 gator, jaws, bamawriter, little cat, and others that are good posters and I welcome there here. Nothing wrong with supporting your own school, just as I am a Vol to the core, but we as fans don't have to be a jerk when interacting with fans of other schools that are courteous.

From where I sit JP........you don't need to apologize for a damn thing!
Thank you, brother, but I've been feeling for a bit now like I do. Really got me thinking about it when some of us were talking about how we treat rival fans at the stadium. That's what lit the lantern for me.

Understand your views on the trolls but they just come here to punch anyone's buttons they can and get responses and Freak is pretty lenient allowing free speech that doesn't cross the line. Its just a game with them. Save your blood pressure and don't humor them and play along.

Having said that, If a troll post does get you riled up, by all means exercise your free speech if you desire.

Some of these folks are here to troll, irritate, and dig the knife a little deeper. Those people have no class whatsoever. They’re brazen, arrogant, and feeling pretty bad about their own lives to come on here and spew the stuff they spew. I do realize that there are those who DON’T do that, so to be clear, I’m not painting everyone with that same broad brush.

SIGH! I salute you VFL-82, I'm even more guilty than you because I actually enjoy putting down the more obnoxious of these visiting intruding trolls. And I know better, having butt heads with our own VN trolls off and on over the years. But as much as our local trolls irk me, it's the obnoxious non-Vols fans are worse and reduce my tolerance to zero. I drop by rival boards from time to time, but I only lurk, don't even sign up, just read through some of what they say. I even learn a thing or two from them now and then.

Apologize if you like, JP. I don't see any need for it whatsoever. There's a BIG difference between a stadium built to accommodate fan bases of opposing teams and a fan site. I don't mind a couple of the gator fans who come on here because they mostly show respect and contribute meaningful dialogue. But man, some of these guys.....take for instance, the Bulldog all over the threads today. As far as I'm concerned, he and fans like him can gtfo!

It's all good, hoss. You're in good company. I've still got the bootprint on my starboard buttcheek from years back when Freak turned me into a chip-shot field goal for getting after LittleCat a little too hard.

...okay, a lot. Anyhow, water under the bridge.

And LittleCat...if you read this, I really am sorry...

...that we didn't beat your stinkin' bunch of inbred goat molesters team by 30.

Go Vols.
