Mark Weidmer, TFP, has an interesting commentary this morning about Tennessee's chances v. the Cats. Though a journalist, I know Mark's affinity for all thing Blue, so I was more than a little surprised to read...
When you’ve beaten a team 22 straight games — as the Vols have the Cats — grabbing win No. 23 shouldn’t be that difficult. Especially when you’ve won seven of your last eight as UK’s dropped three of its last four.

Beyond that, the Cats aren’t too happy with each other at the moment. Big Blue boss Rich Brooks and senior quarterback André Woodson got into a shouting match on the sideline at Georgia on Saturday after Woodson took a sack rather than throw the ball away deep in Bulldog territory.

Woodson later told the Lexington Herald-Leader: “If Coach wants me to get rid of the ball, I’ve just got to do a better job of doing that. This is really a disappointing moment for me and this team. We’re doing a poor job of getting ready for these games, and we have to correct that before next week.”

Next week is now this week, of course, and no matter how hard they try to get ready for this one, the Wildcats suddenly look as dead as John McCain’s presidential campaign.

"the Wildcats suddenly look as dead as John McCain’s presidential campaign."

I'm betting this will be about the only time you see a member of the media leaning towards us this week. Enjoy it...

Ky does look like a team in some disarray. How Brooks has managed to hold onto his job this long is a mystery.

yeah, if i were betting on who was going in to this game with more confidence, i'd have to believe it's KY when looking at our defense as a whole.

i know what we've done defensively in spots of late, but the consistency is just not there. and got to think that if an Earl Bennettless Vandy can move the ball on us, KY should fair pretty well as well.

but then, there's the trend this TN team has shown all year.......crappy one week, world beater's the next.....you just don't know what to expect.

which is why i've refrained from making predictions for the last 6 weeks. and that will continue this week. i won't be surprised one way or the other.

Strange forces are at work on this year's team.
It's almost as though the weaknesses and big losses have tempered their resolve.

The media is now entrenched on the 'can't win on the road' storyline. This gives these 'us against the world' Volunteers their next media mountain of disrespect to climb. Look out UK, our Vols are circling the wagons again, and that tends to spell trouble for the opponent.

Hard to believe our epic win in overcoming the intimidation of Starkville didn't quiet those critics.
I note the sarcasm...

But I gotta tell you, that was an impressive win to me. Those guys were absolutely head hunting us, and the Vols gutted out a tough win.

Vols starting to come together as the Cats are coming apart. Going to be another close one I think.

Vandy actually didn't move the ball on us too well. The stats are a little telling - 270 yds total offense. We had 6 penalties - 5 of which gave Vandy first downs.

Our defense has looked terrible. I'd put the effort Saturday as slightly better than terrible. The key to stopping KY is getting to the QB. We put no - zero - pressure on Vandy all day. There were several times I thought - "man, he has all day". And it's because he did.

All I can say is....streaks are made to be broken. I hope it doesn't happen on Saturday, but eventually it will. Memphis ring a bell? Vandy at home in 05? Yeah it could happen. And to overlook KY or to take them lightly will almost guarantee a loss for UT.

what a nice thread....words of wisdom from OWH and a post from UT IE 95

I just hope KY has a hard time stopping the run and CDC runs the ball again and again and again.

I'm glad we had such a tough time with Vandy...it may wake the Vols up enough to turn in a UGA or Arky kind of performance against UK.

for 2 1/2 quarters......we didn't stop them. from mid way thru the 3rd and the 4th, we shut them out.

penalties were bad, on both sides. we kept their drives alive in the 1st half, and they had the big one in the 3rd quarter to keep our driver alive and ultimately get is back in the game.

tale of two halves, and for once, i'm at least glad the let down came first, and not later.........

and i agree about getting to Woodson. can't let him sit back and pick and choose all day.

I havent seen any KY games this year. I have seen the scored but that doesnt necesarily tell me much. How is Ky Defense? If I understand correctly its not as good as vandys.

I haven't seen any either, but I did see the offensive highlights from the UK/UF game... aren't they one of the top offenses in the SEC? Forgive my lack of knowledge and lack of wanting to research...:)
