Scout.com: 'An incredible cheap shot'

“I would want to address one thing just quickly,” he said. “Ordinarily, I'm a pretty big boy and I can take and ignore most anything that might come up. But I thought it was an incredible cheap shot to say something about former players ... unnamed players talking about our program, particularly on a day when we had a big game like this and a lot of prospects coming in.

“I have relationships with our players that have been through this program, and if they've got something they want to say they can certainly say it to me at any time. I don't believe they would go through some person that's never walked on our practice field, never been to a meeting – that I know of – or a press conference or anything else since I've been here.

I think most of what was said in that article was true. You can't criticize the writer for not going to your practices or meetings when you close them off to the media. I guess Fulmer has been watching some of Oklahoma State's press conferences.

I think the journalist made it up. But that's just me...
really? you don't think some former players are as disgusted as we are with our recent past vs. better teams? I think they are and it's just much easier to anonymously voice it than to step up to the mike and say it publicly. I don't think any of them wants to be associated with the demise of a successful coach, but several could drive nails into the coffin with public comments.

I am just glad he showed a little emotion and got fired up! Needs Bobby Cox to mentor him a little bit!

Fulmer should remember what this feels like next time he wants to throw one of the players under the bus.

I think possibly ONE former player MAY have said something and Pennington ran with it. But why should what a FORMER player thinks carry so much weight anyway? They are no more to the program than you or I now. It WAS a cheap shot, intended to hurt by using people who are SUPPOSED to be grateful for their years at UT and the coaches who provided the opportunity to play there. Just my opinion, which is worth what you pay for it.

their opinion carries so much weight because they're viewed as an authority on the subject, right or wrong.

Thats not true. There are media portions of practices that are open, and he said Pennington has never been to a press conference, and of course all of those are open.

IF the article is true, it seems a plausible explanation for some of the problems we've seen over the last few years.

IMO, if you can't name the former players that made the commit, the article is not worth a hill of beans.

Good win for Fulmer and the program.

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. I watched Coach Knight get ripped by "former players" and no one could name any except for Butch Carter. Hey I have no problem with x players being asked what is going on, or for that matter, what is wrong, just name them, and go on from there. Let's celebrate at least 48 hours a quality win before p---ing inside the tent.
Go Vols...go hoosiers too, I'm sorry but 5-1 ain't something that happens up here unless we are playing basketball:clapping:

IF article is true, how would you put that much of a band-aid on the team in a two week period?

I agree with the point that having unnamed sources makes the article worthless.
