An even better NFL farming system.

am i the only one who's a little skeptical of all these NFL coaches? The college game is so different from the pro one that the transition isn't always that successful. It's one thing for Kiffin to go from college to pro to college in a 4 year period, but another for the elder Kiffin to go from college to pro to college in a 25 year period. There's a reason why some coaches are better suited for one verus the other (i.e. Spurrier, Saban, Carroll). I'm not worried about Orgeron making the transition, but a bunch of the names being thrown around have never had to recruit or deal with stupid 18 year olds making stupid 18 year-old mistakes. I hope I'm proven wrong......

I totally agree but if you are not partaking of the Jim Jones kool aid... then you are likely to have your intelligence questioned, accused of being a troll, or otherwise ostracized. Lord knows, a college coach is not capable of producing NFL talent and NFL coaches all love or excell at college level recruiting. Who knew all this time each level had the wrong type of coaches. I'm surprised the sport has made it at either level. Amazing!

I'm not going to question anyone's intelligence, but let me tell you why this situation excites so many of us.

First, I don't know of any other candidate for the UT job that could have assembled a staff anywhere near this impressive. For years and years, we have all seen what the team did with Cutcliffe vs. without Cutcliffe. I think we can all agree that good assistants are key to a good program. On top of that, we have assistants coming in that have worked a level higher than what they now face. If your OL coach spent all of last year trying to figure out how to stop people like Julius Peppers, Dwight Freeney, Haynesworth, etc, they really should be able to handle whatever 21 yr old Florida puts on the field.

Second, recruiting is native to several of the staff (known as great recruiters) Lane himself, Reaves, Coach O, and possibly Gonzales from FL. For the NFL guys, their contacts in the league and experience in the league should give them a great recruiting pitch to work with while they get used to the process. "You want to play in the league...Let me show you what I used to look for when I coached there..."

Third, Energy, Energy, Energy. Work Ethic is something that can't be overlooked, and Lane Kiffin has been like a human lightning bolt on Red Bull with a coffee IV on the recruiting trail so far.

So...We have Experience on the sidelines, a solid recruiting foundation, and endless energy.

I'm not saying every NFL coach could come back and dominate the college game, but I am saying that when professionals come to what is essentially their farm league, I expect them to do well.

One of the biggest upgrades I see coming with this new staff is the potential of coaches actually teaching position technique to players. Fundamentals baby!
