An Alabama Fan's Take on Denying Our Request to Wear the Orange Jerseys

Why wear orange with bama in red? The thought of that color combination makes me nauseous. Should I see a doctor?

i love this old joke......

How the schools got their colors.
Some Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn and Alabama fans decided that black-and-white school colors were a bit too dull. So they called upon God to give them colors that would truly represent them.

First, the Tennessee fans stepped before God and asked for their school's colors. God said "When I see Tennessee, I see a great big orange sun coming up over beautiful white clouds. "Tennessee, my favorite sons, will be orange and white".

Next, the Georgia fans stood before God and asked for their school colors. God said, "I see a field of fertile black soil...from which will grow a beautiful field of red roses. Georgia will be black and red."

The Auburn fans were next. God said "When I think of Auburn, I see a glorious sky of blue with the bright orange sun shining down on my favorite town. Your colors are orange and blue."

God then turned to the Alabama fans and said quite hastily, "Your colors are crimson and white."

Later, after the fans had left, St. Peter came to God and said, "Lord, as you handed out each fan's colors, you explained their origin-all but the Alabama fans. I'm curious. Why crimson and white? What do you see when you think of Alabama?"

"I see the same thing you see," God said, "white trash and red necks".

I think it would've been nice to relive some of the traditions that took place back in the days of Bryant and Neyland. Who knows what might have been allowed had the request been made prior to the season. Maybe Kiffin was trying to re establish the tradition or "trying to pump up his team" and maybe it was seen as the latter on the ADs part.

Well for one, they used to do it all the time. So you got the tradition factor. Two there's enough of a contrast that neither needs to wear a white jersey. And three....umm...red and orange are colors of fall maybe?

I'd think it look cool. But as far as making you nauseous, are you sure it's not just the crimson part making you sick?

I've been to Wimbledon twice. The only bathrooms I recall were the porta potty types. They were kinda nice though...I didn't throw the match in because the UK crabs can pole vault.

How would you know? The closest you`ve ever been to Wimbledon is Pigeon Forge.

Mal Moore knew about the request long before Sunday, according to the rules Tennessee had to make the request to the SEC office, receive approval after it was determined there was enough of a contrast, then make the request to Alabama. Don't think for one minute that Mal Moore didn't know about Tennessee's intentions before this week.

Not much difference than UT denying Auburn the chance for their Tiger Walk, or whatever gay tradition they do. Under the guise of safety? Really?

If you come to the game here in Knoxville in two weeks, I think you'll get a picture. There's probably 150,000 or more people milling around the university. The last thing you need to do is have an opposing team's fans throw a little pep rally with a few thousand of their fans in the middle of tens of thousands of opposing ones. Law enforcement is stretched very thin on game day as it is.

KCVol, I didn't say anything about finding out Sunday. I said BEFORE the season started. That would mean that UT files the request in AUGUST and the SEC office passes it on to BAMA.

Ok, ill give you that. Still think its the same thing though. However, what you are saying is, if they had their little pep rally or whatever it is that the War Eagles do, what you are saying is, your fans wouldnt be able to contain themselves, and not act in an adult fashion? I can see a few people acting out, hell, we all have "those kind" of fans, but from what I am reading, you're basically saying it would be a riot type situation? By the way, I am LE in SC, so i know what you mean by being stretched thin. But I like to think that if millions of homos can march on state capitals and the national capital, then a few thousand "fans" should be allowed to do their tigger walk (misspelled intentionally) on the campus of a College. Maybe Im wrong....

No one found out about the request until Monday after practice when CLK announced Bama's rejection. As far as any of us know the request could have been filed before the season and not responded to until Sunday or Monday. CLK did say that he and his staff discussed it over the summer once he learned of the history and he thought it would be cool to bring back the colors once the NCAA had changed the rules.
My objection to your post is the insinuation that CLK was trying some kind of gamemanship, when it's pretty clear to me he is just paying respect to a great rivalry. It's a shame that Bama turned down the request, really kind of small and petty when you consider both teams will be fired up wearing any color jersey, but it's my understanding that the offer to Bama to wear crimson next year in Neyland still stands and I hope Bama chooses to wear crimson.

It's nothing personal. It's traditional for the visiting team to wear white jerseys and playing in Bryant Denny is kind of like playing at Wimbleton -players are required to wear all white for the sake of tradition. That's what happens when you play in a classy venue, Vols.

:eek:lol:this seriously made my day. thanks

Coming back to topic:

UA are terrible hosts for denying a legit request. Tjhey should be ashamed and I hope will be beaten like a drum Saturday afternoon.

GO VOLS!!!!

That's plain Bs bama boy. I'm old enough to remember when each SEC team wore their home jerseys regardless of where it's played. That's the way it should still be and would be if the lousy TV networks had been told to shove it up their ass years ago. What goes around comes around - bama will want a favor one of these days & then UT can tell them where to shove it.

Why does it make UA a terrible host? Why should we be ashamed?

It's our house, so our rules. I'm sorry that you guys can't seem to get past the fact that the road team typically wears white, but that's the deal.
