I didn't say work harder I said to do the things necessary to find a suitable job and don't expect gov't to help in that. I don't look to them to help me at all

because it was flawed from the start. It's not a retirement fund but has somehow morphed into one. Give me my money and let me be responsible for my future. Pretty simple

since government isn't going anywhere, it needs to be fixed. the rich control everything, including the government. the government doesn't work because it is controlled by rich lobbiest that don't care about anything except there own greed.

But shouldn't the government protect you from potentially making bad decisions regarding your retirement? To me the whole concept of SS is alien.

I'm not sure how rich control everything, when we keep voting pay raises for government workers and giving away more and more money. The rich clearly have a say, but have far less voting power than everyone else. The ability to hire and fire is the ultimate power and the rich flat out don't have it.

I tend to agree with you. Special interest and big money control much of govt. Gov't may try to help lower class with focused taxes and programs - but the programs are highly wasteful, inefficient, and miss the point.

What's wrong with aspiring to be as filthy rich as possible? That's my goal in life. I want to have more money than I could ever hope to spend by the time I die, and do whatever I please with it.

me too, but for most of us it is unrealistic. greed should not be the basic motto of the government, but it is.

We agree that the government should let us keep what is ours, and stay the hell out of our way. But I don't begrudge a private citizen because they have been successful in life.
