Ament declares for NBA draft

declaring isn't the same as going. he has until the end of May to pull out
This! He may and probably even will go. But he has until the end of May like you said. I wish the best for him in whatever he ultimately decides. Either way we’re looking good for next year! GBO

The Lakers need guys who will play defense next to Luka and Reaves. Knecht isnt playing D and honestly isnt shooting well to get PT....
No one ever demanded Luka to play defense. I’ve read about how terrible Luka’s defense is since he came to the NBA. Anthony Davis was a good defender. Why is it important for Dalton?

Because he's not good enough offensively. Guys like him need to be good defensively to warrant extended PT. There are a couple of handfuls (or more) who get extensive PT because they are great defensively

Because Luka and Reaves are elite offensive players while Dalton is a mediocre to decent shooter with no other NBA skill. It's why a washed up Smart, Vanderbilt, and Rui gets those minutes and Dalton is stuck to the bench...

I wish him well. He seemed to give his best while he was here, I would have liked to see him stay a year or two, put on some muscle and dominate. I don't watch NBA, (I turned them off in the late 70's), hopefully he does well.

I really think some of these guys need to be smarter about going to the pro’s too early. Ton of politics in sports. Look at Kennedy Chandler. He should have been a starter in the NBA for a long time by now but he flew under the radar, didn’t have the prestige as a recruit and he’s just barely now re-cracking his way into the league.

Ament wasn’t really mentioned alot in the freshmen phenom discussions this year. He would have been far better served coming back and leading this elite transfer class.

He could have filled out and gotten the experience of leading Tennessee to its first final 4 while still making millions.

The NBA seems like a league rapidly losing interest too. None of the superstars coming up that are going interesting to watch.

Chandler wasn't ever going to be a starter in the NBA because he's simply too small to consistently defend at that level. Payton Pritchard is probably the best match for him as a small player who can get big minutes, but he's pretty strictly a 6th man. Plus he's 2 inches taller than Chandler.

For Chandler his best strategy was to jump when he had the best chance of scoring a good contract, which is exactly what he did, scoring one of the best 2nd round contracts in some time because of his close relationship with Ja Morant. If he had waited a year, the Grizzlies would no longer have cared about keeping Morant happy.

It’s very fair. I said Ament isn’t ready and may not make any noise for several years. DK’s game at UT was much better than Ament’s and he’s not been anything special in the NBA.
I didn’t say he won’t develop, but it looks like he’s got a long way to go to me. He disappeared in numerous games last season and doesn’t have a dominant physical presence
Ament would have done well to stay at UT.

1. make more money
2. be in the national spotlight instead of the G League
3. try to win a championship
4. increase your draft ability for next year

I have read several times that Barnes told Ament he was too good not to go to the pros. I kind of wonder if that means we couldn’t afford him and a supporting roster that could make the final 4.

I know for certain that if he was at TN, I’d watch him play at least 30 games next year. I doubt I’ll see him play for a few years once he goes to the NBA.

Just seems like I’ve seen so many guys that were in Ament’s position come back. Would love for it to be Tennessee one time to retain a guy that helps us run.

Legacy is forever. Being a leader that takes Tennessee to their first final four would be something you take with you forever. Money can’t buy some things.

LeBron would def trade a few years of his nba career to go back to Ohio state and run with them. You can tell he missed that opportunity.

i dont blame any player, no matter how high you are projected, for declaring and going through the process. at best you find out you are a true NBA prospect, at worst, you come back to school with what i would figure to be some solid feedback on where you need work

If he is going to be a lottery pick he should go pro. If not then he should consider coming back. Right now he is seen as a lottery pick.

Comparing Kennedy Chandler to this situation is apples to oranges. Kennedy was always going to be small and was always going to be a second round pick...and he still made $5 million guaranteed. But, it's just not he same scenario at all.

Can he go through the process and see where he would get drafted and then withdraw if it's not a good enough grade?

Jw if the door is still open or is it shut for good now he declared?
