Ament declares for NBA draft

I mean with Reaves & Luka both out - if DK can’t get run ahead of Bronny & Nick Smith, I think his time in LA is done. He should be able to “jump” those guys
As long as a superstar like LeBron is playing, Knecht’s success will hinge on the star’s willingness to share the ball with him.

Knecht’s best chance of working his way up in the NBA will come by being on a team that lacks star power. Charlotte would have been a great fit, in my opinion. I don’t have NBA league pass, so I’ve only been able to watch a small sample for either of them.

If Kinect isn’t making a big impact, definitely don’t see Ament doing it NOW. Another year would have help him. Get ready to ride the bench

My God people, please stop using Knecht as a comp for Ament! They could not possibly be more different in every possible way, and knowing just a little about how the NBA values talent and drafts goes a really long way here.

Ament is 18 and essentially a lump of clay right now, but with measurables and a skill set that are uber-rare and highly sought after by NBA organizations because of the superstar potential they offer. It's why you see so many raw, boom-or-bust projects taken in the lottery, which is often just that.

Knecht was a 24 year old finished product with definite flaws, and kind of a one-trick pony who needed to land somewhere he could fit into a Kyle Korver / Corey Kispert type role as a bench sniper in a motion, ball movement type of system. The Lakers, with their P&R / iso heavy system, was about the worst place for him. The aborted Charlotte trade last year would have been a godsend.

But Ament and Knecht have zero in common other than they were both Vols for a season.

19 (December 10, 2006) and 23 (April 19, 2001) years of age.

I agree they aren’t the same person. We don’t know how it will turn out for either of them.

It will be more fun than 99% of the jobs of our fellow posters and for far more money than 99.9% of the posters make annually in their jobs

That's besides the main point that any G-League comment or reference as if a kid like Ament will simply be drafted and shipped off to the G-league is just completely ignorant and shows a complete lack of knowledge as to how the NBA drafts and develops lottery picks.

Always take the playing time. If you’re good, you’re getting payed to have fun. Otherwise you’re getting paid to be bored.

I wonder how shoe deals work for guys who generate publicity in college but are forgotten in the NBA..
Wanting to ride the pine is about the softest thing I've ever heard.

My sentiments as well. I felt pointing that out to the drive-by casual was useless

Knecht{sp} is a defensive liability evidently.....
I’m not sure what to make of that either. Bruce Pearl said he was a great defender in college, so I take that as they needed any excuse to hide that maybe he didn’t mesh with LeBron and needs a second chance elsewhere.

Obviously LeBron would prefer that his son beats out Knecht for playing time. Also, defense in the NBA simply stinks in general. The fouls are completely nonsense.

I’m tired of talking about it, but can’t let it go. Knecht has all the skills he needs to play but needs experience with a starting rotation so that he can learn the game flow of the NBA.

Sounds like the poor guys claiming Dobbs would have been a top 15 QB in the NFL if given a chance. Bronny and Knecht play different positions so your comment makes no sense. Especially after LeBron publicly talking up Knecht during the early part of his rookie season.

Your posts are extremely suggestive that you might not watch the NBA too often given all the false narratives you spew about it

I don’t know King.. I’ve been watching NBA my entire life and have noticed NBA players play fairly interchangeably, despite their listed positions. You may have noticed a lot of small forwards are bringing the ball up the court these days. Heck, over the past 30 years, even. Grant Hill and Michael Jordan were not limited to their listed positions and neither are the guys playing today. Playing time is playing time, so knock it off with that “wrong wing position” nonsense.

I am fully aware of the interchangeable roles. Still, LeBron isn't specifically clamoring for Bronny to get PT over Knecht. Neither of them are worthy of extended PT. Knecht can get hot at times but so do lots of guys his size who bring more to the table as players. His role is always going to be limited due to the fact he can't guard anybody, despite what Pearl said. His performance on that side of the ball hasn't matched Bruce's comment

Maybe LA saw a need for Dalton before Davis left and Luka was added. If there is a terrible position to be in, it’s being on the same team and sharing similar position skills with LeBron, Luka, and Reed.

No doubt. I still can't think of one team in the playoffs where he would get much more PT

Ament is in a win/ win situation. There is no wrong choice to be made.

Ty Simpson got a miracle/gift going 13th last night. He'd capped out on upside.

But no, Nate would make more gojng to the NBA, since he'll get 2 years, minimum, of guaranteed salary as an absolute floor.

Wow. This thread is crawling with folks who don’t understand that you can withdraw from the draft and come back.

Let the kid get his feedback and then decide where he will continue to grow his game.

He clearly loves the Vols
He clearly loves Barnes
He clearly deserves the feedback.
