Ament and Estrella injuries

Agree on the turnovers. Disagree on the number of points for Ament. Virginia is not Arizona. They struggled with Wright State. We can beat them without a career game from Ament (which 30+ points would be) if the rest of the team plays well and Nate just plays a good game by his standards.

Barnes has said in his early years he once had a 20 point lead and emptied the bench. Said the game got down to 6 point difference and had to put his starters back in to finish the game. I'll trust a guy that has coached in 30 NCAA tournament in his 39 years, experience trumps all..
Not sure what everyone is complaining about…we blew multiple HUGE leads with the starters in THIS season. So yea, maybe he remembers that since it was like last month against UK.

For us to beat Virginia, IMO
Ament needs 30+
Team needs LESS THAN 10 T/O's

Virginia is vastly overrated and so is the ACC. Tennessee has a great shot at winning. The ACC went 4-2 in round one which doesn’t sound bad but that is with Louisville and Duke barely winning in nail biters with both being the far higher seeds while Virginia trailed at the half against a 14 seed. They were a few points away from going 2-4 in the first round

I agree on not needing 30 from Ament, but in reality, I don't think we can count on back to back games from Gillespie like he just gave us. There has to be a 3rd scorer. We desperately need Estrella to be a big contributor IMO. He's oft injured and maddeningly inconsistent much like some of our other post players from recent years. Maybe Evans will be well enough to give us a spark against Virginia? Would love to think Gillespie and Ament both go off against UVA, but it seems like it's more of an either/or situation with those two.
Yep. The Evans we got against Vandy on Senior Night would be nice. That, JP at his best, and a good night from JG should do the trick.

Estrella is fine. just a simple ankle roll stepping on a foot. he gets the day off tomorrow. we good.

now whatever the hell is wrong with Ament is a mystery. if a player of his supposed calibre scores no points something is missing. even Michael Jordan scored points with the flu. if you're on the court you should be able to score. I can't figure o

Oh cool - nice to have a professional doctor chime in on Estrella's ankle injury. Just curious, when did you examine Estrella....?????

Maybe Ament can have the spiral surgery today that Cedric Tillman had on his high ankle sprain and be ready for tomorrow.

Would I rather Nate score 30? Sure. And he is one of, if not our best FT shooter so we will desperately need that going forward. However, like most really talented, young players when the ball gets in his hands, sometimes it just stops moving and gets "stuck." The other 4 guys just stand around and watch and hope he can score. The offense functions best when the ball keeps moving around within the offense. I'd rather JG and Estrella put up 15+ each, and NA score 10 than NA get 30 and we get stagnant on offense. At least in a win or go home situation.

Rick has addressed his propensity to play starters too long many times. Over the years he said he'd gotten burned multiple times by removing starters too early. He did, because of his humility, admit he may be too rigid on that, but he'd rather leave them in too long and not regret it. I personally have no problem trusting Rick and the coach assigned to substitutions to work it out.

VA. will sleep on Ament and he will have a game like Auburn , all their energy will go to stop or slow down JaKobi . I think Nate will go for double digits with 5+ rebounds, hopefully a game trending towards his Auburn game.
Barnes is too savvy to tip his hand against a midmajor in the 1st round. Least that my hope for the potential gauntlet we're headed for... Virgina, POTENTIAL Iowa state, Michigan, Ark, Houston.... again potential

I ve rolled my ankle the way Estrella had before. He will be good to go.
I've done that, too, and it swelled up big, hurt a lot just to walk. But I was young and dumb, so I walked it off and played for two more hours before going home.
