Amazing article about Josh, his family & alopecia (the disease causing his hair loss)

At the risk of sounding preachy I have always believed that to improve your life the best thing you can do is try to turn the negative experiences into positive ones. This is a perfect example. I had noticed it maybe 2 seasons ago on Josh and my first thought was shave it all off. Personally, I have said many times if I didn't have a weird shaped head I would keep it all shaved off. Men's haircuts are overpriced anyway so think about how much money you'd save on haircuts every year!

Some around here try to ridicule me by saying I must be his grandmother or in his family cause I defend him.

Its sad that I gotta defend why I like the kid on a Tennessee fan forum.

D4H you were doing good until you laid this egg...In a friendly sorta of way may I recommend you take a break and reassess where you are? This board is to be enjoyed and not agenda-ed to death..(if there's such a word). I think we would ALL agree JD is one of the most precious, well respected QB's we've had in our history. He's not perfect on the field of play BY HIS OWN ADMISSION...and no one hopes he wins or is in the conversation for the Heisman more than me because that would mean our season has gone unbelievably well and I just happen to love seeing the "good guys" respected. SOOOOO....for the future you must know that probably 100% Vol fans here are glad we have a young man named Joshua Dobbs (mom requested he be called Joshua who he's named after) You know Moses, Joshua, Elijah, etc...

You can take day a low dose steroid to blunt you own antibodies from killing hair follicles .. The problem is that most rheumatologists will not keep a patients for long periods of time ..steroids are use in short courses

Here's an interesting question too: Would the NCAA or the NFL allow a player to be on long term steroids for a medically acceptable condition? On the surface it sounds like a frivolous question but I know that their banned substance list is pretty long.

Prednisone is not a banned substance. However, long-term steroid therapy would not be a great option for an elite athlete due to side effects.

If he desired treatment, topical agents (steroids, immunotherapy, or minoxidil) would be better choices.

Large difference in "liking the kid" and having an unnatural infatuation with the kid.

That's why you are ridculed, as you state.

I for one will shed a tear when Josh runs through the T for the last time not because he's the greatest QB ever or because he's an aerospace engineer although thats pretty awesome but because he's a great human being and has represented himself his family and the Vols with nothing but total class and respect.

Yes prednisone although a "steroid" is not a ped more the opposite. Long term use can wreck your body and side effects can be horrible.

Please. Nobody has a problem with you liking Dobbs. Heck, most of us are incredibly proud and thankful to have him as our QB and representative of the University.

We just all think that you're crazy.

He's not technically "crazy". He just tries too hard to defend Dobbs is all and it backs him up into a corner.

While a FEW may have said or say some stupid things regarding his condition a VAST majority don't. Some people on hear acting like our fanbase is bashing him as a whole. Calm down and quit being dramatic, 95% of people love Dobbs. GBO!

Why would someone be ashamed to be a fan of Josh Dobbs?

No one is. I'd guess 95% (there's always a few idiots) of fans are huge fans of Joshua and are incredibly proud he's a Vol. This kid is one of the greatest representatives in the history of both our University and football program.

I Hope quite to opposite. Because that would mean he'd won a championship. And the board would have to award D4H.

They can name a urinal in Neyland Stadium after him. What's so bad about that?

I love Dobbs and am so glad he is a VFL. My question is.....suppose Dobbs has a Heisman year and gets a high projection in the draft. Does he go to the NFL ($$$) and put his Aerospace Engineering career on hold? Inquiring minds want to know? Thoughts?

Dobbs has a disease, but those who make fun of him are a disease.

I got to be honest here. I really haven't heard what I would call someone making fun of Joshua. At least if they were it slipped past me. Now obviously it has happened because Joshua has talked about it but as far as a rampant fun making of a disease he has..... I have not witnessed that. So I certainly am not in favor of making someone more of a victim than they really are and I'm sure Joshua would not want that either.

I can't imagine that he wouldn't give the NFL a crack if he gets a chance. JMO

1000% IMO. Go try your hand in the NFL, bank millions as even a backup, still millions more as a starter and then go build your aerospace engineering firm for the rest of your life.

Amazing parents created and raised a totally amazing young man.

Josh and his parents have earned my total respect.

I greatly appreciate him and his parents becoming VFLs and representing Tennessee so well.

May God always bless them.

Climbing the rankings WIN by WIN...VFL...GBO!!!
