I can't get on volnation these days without reading everything possible negative about the program. Now I understand we are in a down time right now as a program, but what people need to look at is the bright side of things. With these coaches leaving, we now have the opportunity to bring in new coaches who could potentially be a better fit for Tennessee and gel with Dooley. It was obvious something wasn't right between DD and his old staff, but most of those guys are gone now. He has the chance to bring in different guys with a new AD who will be willing to spend in order to win now. I like our potential on the offensive side of the ball regardless of if Heistand leaves or not. I feel like Chaney, Graham, and Hinshaw are all staying regardless of what happens and we could find a replacement for Heistand that would be just as serviceable. Combine all this with the amount of starters we are returning and the recruiting class we are bringing in, all of a sudden things are looking pretty bright on the hill! I can't wait till the rest of the fan base realizes Tennessee is on it's way back with Dooley at the helm if they will just be patient and let him work this offseason instead of making him feel as if he needs to look over his shoulder for the next HC coming. If you support the team, you gotta support the coach too. GO VOLS!! :loco:
Yes, now is a great opportunity to bring in a different coach; however, in 2008 and again in 2009, no one was interested in the job.
We are truly in a down cycle. Take in to account, (1) Tennessee is not fertile recruiting soil (2) consider how we treated Fulmer & Kiffin and how we are currently treating Dooley on this web site and other web sites. What coach would want to come here, knowing that the fans have un realistic expectations. Once you don't live up to their expectations, they call for your head?
Honestly, if you were Gruden or Cowher, who had nice media jobs and work maybe 9 months of the year, would you come to U.T.?
If you were Lovie Smith and you only had a few years before you were eleigible for an NFL retirement, would you come to U.T.?
If you coached at TCU, Boise State, etc. would you leave that job to come to the S.E.C. East?
We need to settle for the best coach that we can possibly get, even if it is not the one we truly want. We also need to be patient and watch this program grow slowly, season by season. Look how many seasons it took for South Carolina to go from getting to a bowl game, to winning the bowl games, to qualifying for the S.E.C. Championship game, to an 11 game win season. It took several seasons of steady growth. In that time, they had 2 coaches, Holtz & Spurrier.
If they can do it, then surely we can do it.
