Am I The Last "Fulmerite" ???

Incorrect in all but one.

LSU last year had 2 SEC loses. they needed everyone else in their division to lose at least 3 for them to back into the championship game (using the logic around here).

Arkansas and Florida in 2006 had one SEC loss. They needed everyone else to have two loses in order to back in.

LSU in '05 lost to the Vols which meant they needed everyone else to have two loses to back in.

Auburn is the last team to complete the SEC slate unblemished, and thus didn't "back into the championship". And they didn't even get a sniff of the MNC - oh the irony.
the one loss means you need two from everyone else is incorrect. Go out and beat on the field the folks who might provide competition and you can afford an off week and still win. We typically lose to the better teams so we need them to lose to others moreso than they need losses from us. They provide one of our losses themselves, typically.

You are correct that ties go to head to head winners. Like we did against UGA last year, but still get a rap for somehow backing in. It just doesn't make sense. I'll just see it for what it is from now on and let it go.

You aren't the only one. I would wager that the anti-Fulmer crowd are just a vocal minority. They may be in a majority on this board, but I don't think they represent the majority of Vols fans.

You've got to be kidding me: We loose to Cal and Fla by thirty plus. Bama beats us like we're step kids. We get lucky and beat the Dawgs. We didn't back in last year; we were blind hogs finding an acorn. I will never be happy with 10 wins and only two or three 30 point loses to our biggest rivals.

So one point loses are OK? Since when does margin matter in a loss, seriously.

I don't care if we win by one or thirty, nor do I care if we lose by one or thirty. It's a win or a loss either way.

You are right that both one point or thirty points put Ls or Ws in the results column. And I misquoted the results last year: We lost to Bama and Fla by thirty and Cal beat us like we were step kids. But my point is we did not play well in those games. The lopsided score reflects a lopsided performance. We weren't in their league. I would prefer to loose a game we were competing in, like UCLA, than one where we never showed up to play, like the three I mentioned from last year. It scares me to think fans and coaches are OK with the domination we are getting from some of our biggest rivals. They are our rivals, we are not theirs.

I would gladly take that wager. Almost everyone I know who is an alum or a supporter of the Vols is ready for change. Did it ever occur to you that the "vocal minority" is in actuality the outspoken majority. When you have a full page ad placed in the hometown paper in support of an embattled coach, it's not to settle a "vocal minority".

The margin of victory or defeat doesn't matter in the hopes for a SEC title. But it matters huge on how you really stack up. There could be no pride in how we 'won the East' last year. We never proved we were the best team. No one even believed we had a chance at winning the title game. In the big picture losing big, just like winning big, matters tremendously.

After reading the majority of posts, it feels that way. What I don't understand is this. If Coach Fulmer says nothing, he is not taking responsibility for the loss. If he says he is very upset, then he is accused of just saying what he thinks fans want to hear. If he wins, that is not good, because he will "hang on to his job". If he loses he should be fired now.
In the era of coaches that will sell themselves to the highest bidder (Petrino, Saban etc.) and could care less about anything but a big contract, I will always support Coach Fulmer. GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I don't like to lose!

:hi:

OE and I agree. Give me the carpetbagger coach and an SECC over a guy that bleeds orange and gets routed by UF.

I agree with you....He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't....I apparently saw a different game against UCLA....We screwed up....nothing more nothing less....We've screwed up before and we'll screw up again....but....I saw a team that will beat some people this year and not just the patsies....Will we lose again this year...probably....but....Fulmer was embarrassed by this loss and I am sure he will make the necessary adjustments to correct the problems that led to the embarrassment...One other point....Crompton inspired me....his play at times sucked or was marginal....but...I never saw the fire go out of his eyes....and....lest anybody forget....he led us on two late drives that got the game to overtime.....He matured in front of our eyes and we're to blind to see it....He will be fine....the team will be fine....and....Fulmer will have the last laugh....

10 years is not enough to convince you the ship is on the right path.

I have always vouched for Fulmer and will continue to until something extreme happens. Chavis is the one i am currently upset with.

We win 1 National Championship ten years ago and now because we haven't won another one the ship is sinking....I don't buy it....There is a reason that the SEC is the best/toughest conference in the land....We don't have 2 "good" teams and 10 patsies....Top to bottom every weekend that you are playing an SEC school you got a brawl on your hands....Only two head coaches besides Fulmer were even coaching in the SEC when we won the Crown and both of them are now coaching at different schools within the conference.....Steve Spurrier doesn't seem quite so invincible at South Carolina that he did at Florida and Houston Nutt is just glad to be coaching at an SEC school...I think that the ship is doing fine.....Do I want to win every week....ABSOLUTELY!!!.....Was I embarrassed by our collapse.....ABSOLUTELY!!!....Do I think that the season is over.....ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!....One thing that I will say about Coach Fulmer.....He is most dangerous when he has been embarrassed and when he is the underdog...Let the season play itself out and then let's fight over the scraps....

Who said any thing about a national championship?

Are we competitive in the SEC?

Success is not glorify an eastern division pennant....

When has Fulmer been dangerous in the last 10 years?

Dangerous because our rivals pounded us into the ground.... it is his fault we were there in the first place...

This is not the Olympics....Style points don't count....We played for the SEC Championship last year....Poll the other SEC Head Coaches and ask them if they think Tennessee is dangerous.....Yes....you are right....we do get pounded....but....we also do some pounding....and....at the end of the day...the teams that get pounded the least amount play for the SEC Championship....Ask Les Miles if he thought playing Tennessee in the SEC Championship game was paramount to playing a patsy....We will back to the SEC Championship soon and we will win and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we do it with many or most of the players on this year's team.....
