I am quite disappointed for our fans, players, etc...Not from the standpoint of win or loss but it appears on offense that our players are in a very conservative, basic scheme. Almost every pass was a snap and quick throw to the sideline or a wide receiver screen. Our imagination on offense is not there. I know we scored when Clausen hit some plays down the middle but good lord, why does it take that long into the game before you do it. I think that's the reason some of the few passes we attempted over the middle were so open because UAB was probably only focusing on the sideline stuff. I've tried to not be very critical of Randy Sanders but I just don't see much innovation. Maybe I've watched too much TN football but I can just about call most of TN's plays by looking at their formation. If we as casual fans can do this, what can a talented defensive coordinator do? Again, maybe I'm overreacting. Please someone. Provide some comfort.

well, uab played a soft zone, which all but eliminated the deep ball. we could have thrown it but didnt. we took what they gave us. remember this was uab not florida, or georgia or alabama. our coaches had to see what we had. that is why we play mid majors for the first game. we will be fine. we have tons of talent and we will open it up. TRUST ME. :shades:

UT is an easy target most of the time b/c the offense always looks the same, however, if you believe what Coach Cutliff had to say after the game, they are holding back some for the Florida and LSU games plus it's the first game. He said the I formation is a traditional time tested formation and it's something that UT has been running since 1982. On one hand, he's right...on the other hand, it makes for some very short fingernails and bleeding fingertips. If they look this bad against Florida, then all us UT boobirds and Monday morning QBs will have something to talk about. However, UT doesn't make it very easy on its defense by keeping games so tight. Oh well, some things never change.

The offense ran about 6 to 8 plays all day. Very Basic. And the Defense played the 4-3 even when they should have been playing a nickel and the Defense didn't blitz until the 2nd half.

Very Basic. No Worries :cross:

I am truly and all honestly not worried. Fulmer is natorious for this. I have a feeling keeping the game close was in the gameplan. I mean no that close but close so that we would be underdawgs heading into the florida game. Mission accomplished.

I don't want to take anything away from UAB, but we didn't play anywhere near our potential today, way too many mistakes and an overall flat performance. I was just happy to get out of there with a win. On the bright side it gives Fulmer a lot of film to work with over the next two weeks preparing for Florida.

and when we finally started blitzing we were all over hackney. ut didnt show anything if u ask me. a total decoy to full urban. fulmer still has a trick or two up his sleeve. can u say best win % among active coaches. and that includes spurrier. he is not a fool. cant wait until we play florida.

I was also thinking along those same lines, why give away the house when you have C.J. Leak giving Florida too much help as it is?

You better take a step back and look at what the O did last year, at the end of the year. against a good A&M team... that was NOT struggling.

The gameplan was to stay basic and run hitches/screens all day... it was poorly executed at some points, and just not there at others.

When we got away from that plan at the end of the first half to run a slight hurry up, we moved the ball VERY well. No big deal. Ainge was off today, and that hurt the overall perception too. I wouldn't be so worried... if we look this inept against UF and LSU, then you can worry.

I'm kinda worried because of the performance today, but that's just my nature. I'm not freaking out and jumping off the ship though. They definitely will play better against florida though. the defensive play calls were very soft for much of the game, and I'm sure they wont be that way versus UF. The offense ran the same plays, but to me it still seems less conservative than sanders calls from like 3 years ago. Back then it seemed like it was always, run on first and 2nd, screen on 3rd and long. The offense seems a lot less predictable than it used to be, IMO. I'm worried about the coverage schemes on defense though. Almost all day, the slot receivers were covered by linebackers, and Hackney took advantage of that on all those slants he completed. I don't understand why Chavis didn't put in another corner, or have one safety play the slot receiver tight, and keep the other safety dropped back. Even after he got burned by the LB coverage, he kept going with it over and over again. I never really noticed him doing that in the past, though.
