Am I missing something?

Just because you had a man crush on Dooley doesn't mean we should settle for Big East Garbage . We have the whitest staff in the SEC and if you think race isn't alive and strong in 2013 with young kids 17-21 your dumb and out of touch. This staff sucks compared to most. I'm not sold on this staff Jones brought . Way over paid some coaches that have yet to prove they belong in the SEC. It's not signing day yet but this staff has yet to sign anyone other than a TE & OT that was Cincy Bound.
Sir, with all due respect do you really believe the above? If you do I really feel sorry for you! The only other explanation is you are a troll.

Context, you're missing context.

Ole Miss came put of nowhere this season and won, big in some cases.

Ok. State has had multiple 10 win seasons over the last 5 years.

West Virginia has been a solid, stable program for the better part of 10 years.

Vanderbilt just had its best season in literally a century.

Oh...and Auburn has that little ole' National Championship just 2 years ago.

Seriously...what don't you get? The common thread with each of the programs you mentioned is WINNING. Like it or not UT hasn't fielded a competitive team in an amount of time longer than recruits played their first snap of high school football....THAT'S BAD.

I'm sure this has been regurgitated several times in this thread but WE NEED TO WIN TO BE RELEVANT AGAIN.

Every one of the teams you mentioned accomplished that in the last 2 years.....pretty simple; win and we recruit better, don't and we remain on the outside looking in.

OK - Chicken or egg. How are we supposed to win when this league is essentially the NFL light? As I wrote the only teams we are better off than are Kentucky and...

We need the recruiting to come first to win. To recruit we need a guy that can recruit on his name alone. I really like what Jones has done and said but we need to get some of these guys in Orange. Recruiting will lead to winning. In this league I don't see how you win without the horses. Another league - different story but not here. There is the chance that we have enough talent that, with excellent coaching, can pull an upset. I think we have to hope this is the case.

31st ranked class (rivals)? Ole Miss out recruiting us along with Vandy and the usual suspects? Fulmers worst class was in the 30's.

How are we supposed to get back to at least competing without the players to do it?

Auburn just had a coaching change and a worse season that we did but they are of course out recruiting us buy a mile. So is West Virginia and OK State. What am I missing?

If we can't do better than this then we are in trouble.
Hello Kentucky part II.

What is going on? Is there a realistic chance that we get a bunch of good news on the 6th (or 7th)?

Ole Miss is in the rise because of there HC. Took a huge chance on a guy that coached one year at Ark St and in the NAIA besides AC jobs. He coached locally at a no name NAIA college that isn't even open any more and in his years there he took them from nobody to competing on the playoffs each year. The man can flat out coach and is got to be one of the best recruiters in the country...Frees may very easily be the next Saban

How did Ole Miss come out of nowhere and how has Vandy excelled? What are we lacking that they have. Dooley must have been the worst coach possible because this is the first time in my life that Ole Miss and Vandy are not only out recruiting us but it is not even close.

How long has he been at Ole Miss?
God I was hoping Jones was the next Saban.

The rankings are based on points, i.e. if you have more recruits you have more points, so it's not ENTIRELY about the talent you bring in until everyone has finished their recruiting.

First off, teams in weaker conferences can recruit poorly and still WIN. They have little competition, but when placed against an SEC team, they are annihilated. The talent differential between the SEC and everyone else is DEFENSIVE LINEMAN . These big hosses are very hard to find and come mostly from FLA,GA,AL,MS and especially LA. We had an awesome Dline from 97-01. Look at the player3s we had. So there are 6 teams that get the big,bad Dlineman at this point:Fla,Bama, lsu,SoCar,UGAand AU. These are all located close to the recruit`s homes. we used to be THE PROGRAM IN THE SEC. now we`re another mediocre team. If we can`t do whatever it takes to get some big D-lineman,we are in for a long rebuilding process. If we can create some excitement somehow, they will come. Look at SoCar. and Bama for that matter. They created excitement by hiring NC winning coaches. I hope Butch utilizes every possible tool to create excitement this year or we may be going through another cycle of suck. Go Vols!

You have made some good points and I agree. My point is as a fan we all want to see UT get back to "10 win seasons," correct? If that is true how in the world are all of theses "the sky is falling" fans doing anything to help the cause? I don't think Hart is going to fire CBJ before he at least coaches a game unless an integrity issue come up. Give CBJ at least a chance for goodness sake! Yes Dooley did not turn the program around and yes Hammy, in my opinion, set the athletic department back but at least give Hart and CBJ a chance before you post such negative comments! It's not like programs have been down and come back in the past! Either you are part of the solution or part of the problem! Good grief!

How anything I said could be construed as being against CBJ or that I'm not going to give him a chance is beyond me.

My post had very little to do with CBJ and everything to do with why we are where we are in recruiting.

FTR, I really like what CBJ is doing on the recruiting trail and off...but he's going to need wins if he ever wants to be successful on the Hill.

You hit the nail on the head....we had horrible coaching, above average classes, and a staff that turned over every year since 2008 in some shape, form, or fashion.

How is that conducive to success in any regard, but specifically recruiting? It's not.

Ole Miss hired the right coach, that's how they came out of nowhere. They didn't win anything significant from a national perspective but it was enough to garner the attention of some major recruits...plus Freeze is an Ed O. protege so his recruiting should be top notch, if not unethical.

OK - Chicken or egg. How are we supposed to win when this league is essentially the NFL light? As I wrote the only teams we are better off than are Kentucky and...

You win with good coaching. If CBJ is the right hire, he'll catch a few teams by surprise but, that's how it will happen.

The talent on this team SHOULD HAVE produced more than 5 wins this season. If anything that should indicate just how poor a coach Dooley was....when its all said and done, this team will produce a lot of NFL talent.

One thing that I think works in our favor with CBJ is that he's kept a core group of coaches over his tenure and has won everywhere he's been...instead of the piecemeal approach of the last staff. That's important....let's just hope it breeds success in the SEC as well.

What I think is absolutely hilarious is that this board went nuts when a few us that actually know something about coaches and football stated that Freeze would win and Ole Miss would become a factor in the SEC. Now posters are hoping that Jones can pull a Freeze or even a Franklin. It used to annoy me that VN was so bipolar, but now it just helps me enjoy life more with all of the comedy.

Guys like Freeze and Franklin know the new ways of doing things and don't get hung up with the age old coaching maxims, perceived best practices and other crap that gets in the way of getting the job done. Their players know they are the real deal so they lay it on the line every play and every week. That hasn't happened around here in years.

If Jones can pull it off like those guys he can win with lesser talent as well. Then the recruiting will pick up because of UT's top facilities and fan support blend well with a winning program.

I just want to win. If we can pick up 2 or 3 of the big fish were in on they can help win 8-9 games and make next years class great. It only takes one decent year to get it turned around and I think we have the coach to do it now. I was like most a little disappointed with the Butch hire at first, but man that guy has been doin work so far and all he has ever done is win.

But it doesn't seem to be for Auburn, they currently have the 16th ranked class, an order of magnitude better than ours with that doofus Gus Malzahn.

You do realize that Auburn was miles ahead of us in recruiting BEFORE the coaching change and since the change they have had several good recruits leave and a few that have clearly decommited but just haven't made it official so they are still getting credit in the rankings for those players that pretty much everyone knows they won't have come signing day.

These threads are ridiculous. I hope we can get some big names this year but if it doesn't happen I'm not going to lay the blame on butch. At this point there is nothing to be concerned about. His staff is working hard and at this point you can't expect him to flip a bunch of big names. If our team doesn't improve through the year and he doesn't have us recruiting well next year then there will be some concern. I'm not going to get into everything we have been through but it has been a rough 5 years.

We have a RB and Safety's coach that should be in the SEC the rest our laughable. Our OC and DC will be severely abused this season ! Dear Good ,WE FAILED big time in the WR coaching department. LB coach sounds like a drunk Sal. The DC will suck Balls and we really needed a home run hire at DC. I think This staff sucks and is last in the SEC .
Attention seeker. You must be tired of measuring the bread at Subway.

Man, we miss out on one kid no one expected us to get and half this fan base is ready to jump off the ledge. Back up, guys. Give Butch a chance and some time. This guy comes to Knoxville having won 4 conference titles in 6 years and twice as many games as he lost. Rember, Saban, Miles, Spurrier all started coaching outside the Sec.

You're preaching to a pathetic portion of the fanbase. Its a waste dude.

You need some attention today? Being ignored at home perhaps.
Nah, I have a life unlike you Mr Potato! or should I call you Mrs Potato? After reading your Post in the Basketball forum I see Your a bad ass,lol That will make your mouth sore dude. I understand your on a p/c and it's easy to be a tuff guy...but come on son!
