Tennessee traveled to College Station today to take on No. 8 Texas A&M without star RB Jalen Hurd.

However, redshirt junior Alvin Kamara filled in admirably for the injured starter, amassing 312 all-purpose yards in the 45-38 double-overtime loss to the Aggies.

Those 312 yards set a Tennessee record, besting Chuck Webb’s 294 yards against Ole Miss in 1989:

That wasn’t the only outstanding stat from Kamara’s big day. He also became the first player in 20 years to amass 150 receiving yards and 125 yards on the ground.

Kamara led the Vols with 127 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. He also caught eight passes for 161 yards and another score.

Outside of the early fumble, Kam was brilliant and played his heart out. #VFL

That he did that Vs a top 10 team makes it all the more impressive. He straight up balled out and drew a lot of good attention to himself.

Listened to Doug Mathews recap of the game this morning on his show and he pretty much just glossed over what Kamara did yesterday. It was kinda bizarre. Talked about Kelly a little bit but pretty much said nothing about AK's big game. I thought surely he was gonna gush over AK but it was bubkus.

He should be the staring running back. Hurd is a good player but he's not capable of doing what Kamara did, even against that turnstile defense.

ESPN says Alvin Kamara is first Power 5 player with 150+ receiving, 125+ rushing yards in same game in last 20 years. Monster performance.

.@A_kamara6 (127 rush yds/161 rec yds vs. A&M) & @Jamal31Lewis (128/105 vs. UK in '97) are only 2 Vols to pull off a 100/100 in a game 🍊🏈

That's odd. AK is CDM's kind of ath-a-leet. :)

Seriously though,AK has got to be SEC O player of the week.

Just have to leave him in the game to get lathered up. Finally got to see all he can do without Hurd being in most plays. It will be interesting to see how the coaches handle this when Hurd returns.

Kamara "Beast Mode" all day.:rock::rock:

Him being given the chance to be the featured back yesterday really showed his versatility and tenacity.

He ran, caught the ball and blocked well. His leadership yesterday and throughout this season will be paramount to this team's success!

Go Vols, all day, and let's WIN OUT !!

RBs like that Felix kid from Florida (who really likes Oregon and Auburn) should be salivating at the prospect of playing here.

Guys like Kamara are what this offense is built for.
