Remember him well. WRs on the 1990 roster:

Alvin Harper
Carl Pickens
Anthony Morgan
Craig Faulkner

As was the norm with Majors, that was a mixed bag season. Tied Colorado and Auburn. Lost to ND and to and unranked Alabama (scored 6 pts).

We crushed a top 10 UF team 45-3.

Harper, I believe caught a Super Bowl TD with the Cowboys. Very athletic player

He's often mentioned by informed fans as one of our best WRs ever. That 1990 team might be our most talented ever

One of my all time favorites as well. He could jump out of the stadium. Also followed him with the Cowboys... I will never forget that one catch he had over Davis in the NFC playoff game against the 49ers.

The 90 (and maybe 91) teams should have been playing for the NC, but we couldn't get past Alabama and always seemed to goober a game or two up that we shouldn't have.

That WR corp was the all-time great at Tennessee. The closest 2nd is a mile away.

That team was incredible in 1990. That team also had Chuck Webb as RB - one of the best (if not the best) RBs in Tennessee history.

And lets not forget about the offensive line. Road-graders - all.

The defense also had a future NFL rookie of the year in Dale Carter as DB.

Typical of Majors - recruit/coach NC caliber teams and somehow lose to Alabama (that year 9-6 loss - I was at the game).

The UF victory was incredible. Von Reeves, a TE, threw a TD pass to Harper or Pickens, I can't remember which.

It's true that a lot of players who should be remembered have faded out of memory over the generations. But I don't think Alvin Harper is one of them. He's always mentioned whenever there's a discussion about great Vol receivers.
If you gave me a choice of 5 former/current VOL receivers to have in my rotation for the all time team, Harper's in it all day long, along with Pickens, Seivers, Morgan and McGee

After Webb's season ending injury against Pacific, Tony Thompson came on and led the SEC in rushing. Amsler was on that team as well. Not only was Carter rookie of the year, he was All Pro many years afterward at KC playing CB

Quite an athlete in addition to playing football, I think he was also a 7-foot high jumper as well...

I liked the article until he spoke about Colin Kaepernik.

A.H. : He got a raw deal, got blackballed. He stood for something.

Nope...he knelt. Big difference Alvin.

Big time. Have you see this fool trying to equate the NFL draft with a Slave market? After voluntarily entering the "slave market" for the 2nd time himself! Anyone who follows that fool needs a good head examination at this point.

This shows you just how good the OL was - a 3rd team RB led the SEC in rushing!

Interesting and frustrating year. I had a friend that was on the team, said Pickens at one point during that bama game threw his helmet on the sidelines about 10 yards because he was frustrated with the play calling. Johnny always went into a shell vs. bama. That was my first year out of college, watched that 9-6 debacle live, most frustrating game I have ever been to. Bama blocked a late kick by us to get the winning TD. It was ridiculous. Bama was a near 500 team that year, no way we should have lost to them, and we surrended a big lead to Auburn late. ND was an NC contender and I believe the defending NCs, was no.1 when we played them and it was a narrow loss. That was the year an above average Ga Tech split the NC with .... Colorado who had a loss and a tie. Vols coulda/shoulda/woulda won it all that year IMO.

I think it was 91 that Pickens was the NFL Rookie of the Year on offense and Dale Carter was on defense. We were flat loaded that year. Wish we could still recruit like that, but there is so much more competition these days.

They both played at UT in 1991. It was 1992. They were AFC rookies of the year. A much forgotten fact was that Terry MC Daniel and Anthony Miller were rookies of the year too. Holy s*** we were loaded for about 15 straight years

Okay thanks. Yeah the details get a bit fuzzy after all this time, but yes were were absolutely loaded. Slightly before the time in question we had Cobb-Webb also in 1989.

1985 was a good year that helped put UT back in the national picture, but our great run really started in 1989 and lasted till 2001. We had a losing season in 1988 and weren't expected to do much in 1989, but upset UCLA at their place in the opener and never looked back. I still remember the headline from the 1990 Cotton Bowl, against Arkansas "Tennessee Runs Hog Wild". We ran for 320 yards on them that day, not bad against the SWC champs.

Side note, that's the last time Arkansas won a conference championship in football. They likely would have a couplle Big 12 championships had they stayed.

CLEARLY he's trying to remain relevant and only people with an agenda or have ZERO clue about society would show him any respect. I think my 9 year old granddaughter could fully understand the massive, unspeakable, ridiculous difference between slavery and the NFL...it would be hilarious if not so wickedly devised!
