Alternative Uni's

Are you the same people that yell at the people in front of them to sit down and quit yelling so loud?

Accept it guys, we have an alternate uniform that is all black. Per CBP it will be worn this year at some point, deal with it. It is an ALTERNATE uniform that will be worn once this year. It's a nice change from the all orange and all white.

And you are correct JZ, a team with all the tradition of the Celtics even has an all black uniform that they occasionally break out. Guess what guys, they even sell in stores all across America. Why you might ask, because they look good, and are a change up from the all white and all green the Celtics normally wear.

Where did Bruce say this?

He said it before the season started.

And no we don't have a link to it (atleast I don't) - but I heard it myself so that's all you need to know.

He didn't say which jersey though - so it may not be the black but there is a good chance.

It could be for the KY game. Who knows? But I do remember hearing it as well.

I would think it would be for the Memphis game since it's a away type of uniform(i.e. dark). I can't see us letting KY wear their home unis on our floor. Wouldn't be hard to do the ever popular "black out" if we were to wear them at home though, especially with the new black seats.

No, I'm one of the ones that hobbles down and beats the crap out of them with my cane. :eek:lol: Seriously, I yell with the best of you, but I just do not like the Black uni, maybe if they do wear them I'll change my mind. I remember changing it once, I think about 1968.

My goodness, Tennessee suggests they may pull out some black uni's and some people believe the second coming of Christ may be upon us. Folks, Duke's colors are Blue and White, and no where does it say black. Florida's is Orange and Blue, no where does it say black. Both schools however have an alternate black jersey that they wear, usually for big time rival games. Duke is probably without a doubt the most storied basketball school in the history of the NCAA, yet they still wear black for games against UNC and I think maybe even once in the ACC Tourney. Both have won NC's and both have looked good in black. Tradition is just something for old people to talk about, I care about winning, and the black jerseys werent a distraction for Georgia against Auburn, or Duke against UNC last night. Whose to say the team doesnt already know they will be wearing black in Memphis????? Maybe Pearl told them already so it wouldnt be a distraction when they walked into the locker room and saw black jerseys hanging up. Honestly though do you think C-Lo and Ro are more concerned about what jersey they are wearing or how bad they intend on beating Tiger High???

WillFollowPearl is exactly right. There is nothing wrong with an alternate uniform every once in awhile. Too many Old Codgers act like they are going to bust an artery with the mention of an "ALTERNATE" uniform.

I resemble that remark!! :realmad:

Third jerseys are about merchandise sales. Period. I'd personally rather see us stick with orange and white, but it's hardly surprising that we'd pull out an alternate uniform at some point in an effort to sell more jerseys.

I don't much care if we go this route in basketball; there are plenty of games in a season, and the third jersey would be worn on the road anyway. I will probably want to puke if we start doing the same thing during one of our seven home football games every fall.

By my reckoning your too young to feel this way, according to BigBadBobby. Get in line, you free thinker!

I'm a realist. Ever since the New York Rangers came out with that wildly popular third jersey with the Statue of Liberty on the front, alternate uniforms have swept North American sports. Because they sell well.

However, I'm still adamantly opposed to a black jersey in football for aesthetic reasons. You can make a good-looking black basketball jersey with orange as mostly a trim color, but IMO there's no way to make a black football jersey that looks decent with our helmet. And I think our tradition is a little too entrenched to be one of these teams like South Carolina that switches helmets around depending on what shirt they're wearing.

FYI: if the basketball team has black uniforms, the managers have absolutely no idea about them. The only black uni they have is a practice uni from last year. So if there really is a black game uniform they have really kept it a good secret, b/c the guys that take care of the unis have no idea of them. Just an FYI.

Just an FYI, Bruce Pearl said there would be a surprise or change in uniforms at the beginning of the season. Just an FYI.

College basketball did exist before 1990

I know he said that. I'm just saying that I talked to my old roommate who is a manager on the team and he said that as of right now there are no black uniforms. I realize that doesn't mean that Adidas won't send them in a few days before, but for now none of the managers or team know anything about it.

very true. They could end up being grey. I think most are thinking it will be black b/c the bookstore is selling a black jersey.

No freaking way man!?!?!?! WHERE HAVE I BEEN???? Cuz by my count, Duke ranks 4th in alltime NCAA wins as listed by NCAA.org behind Kentucky, UNC, and KU. The Blue Devils first season was in 1906 and since then they are listed as having a 1,818-802 record, winning over 69% of their games in a 102 year span.

Other teams in the top 50 all time wins list that I know have worn a black jersey without having black as an official school color are #17 Nortre Dame and #30 Texas. There are probably more but Those are the two I have seen wear black.

For all who are interested the Vols ranked #45 with their first season coming in 1909 and since then they are listed as having 1,390 wins and 901 losses with 2 ties over a 98 year span winning nearly 61% of their games.
