Allan Houston

I'm no basketball junkie, although knowledgeable of the game, just not into it. So, my innate knowledge of alot of player and team history is lacking. Being said, isn't there alot of love for King these days? A little too much? The guy was definitely good. Maybe one of the UT best if you're into that. But, he left over 20 years ago, and his jersey retirement was his first footprint on campus, or the university in general since. He didn't give much of anything back.
Why would he? Would you want to be associated with the likes of Wade Houston, Jerry Green, and Buzz Peterson? I don't blame Bernard for staying away. In retrospect, I wish I had boycotted all those years.

yea he was the one that was injured then ran on the court in street clothes during an altercation during a game. One of the writers for kns called him a punk in an article and it was a pretty big deal. My brother is very good friends with two former b-ball players(one was a very good player) that said the reason he didn't get kicked out of school was b/c ut paid him 500,000 to come here and his uncle was going to go to the papers if they disciplined him.

If that's true then they overpaid.

Come on. Be honest. I appreciate the point, but BK didn't leave under the best of circumstances and was not exactly the golden child, a la Manning.

No doubt about that. However, there was certainly no incentive for him to try and mend that relationship. He's been successful without any association with the program. UT basketball gets more from having Bernard King associated with the program than Bernard receives from associating with the program.

He does now but back in the day, that association kept BK out of some major trouble.

The guy was the best, with the only real challenger being Allan Houston. And as for his absence, I blame the University more than the player. He was plucked from the New York playgrounds into a region where he had no real ties, then went back to NYC for the NBA. I believe I saw somewhere that King said he hadn't returned to the Hill because no one had asked him to return. Credit Pearl and Hamilton for finally asking, question all of those before them for failing to do so.

What I saw the other night was a UT great happy to be invited back to join the UT family.
