I didn't take it as a dig, I was just confirming what the list was. I love the history of it all. It's interesting to think about what might have been had Georgia Tech not left the conference, big mistake on their part. I've always had sort of a soft spot for them, that whole "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" thing I guess.
I watched the Saturdays in the South episode mentioned above by njvols and the feud with Bryant had to do with a cheap shot that a Bama player took on a Tech player that injured him permanently. They didn't show it but Bill Curry said it was a forearm if I remember correctly and I suppose it was a shot to the head. They didn't speak for a couple of years after that.I know. “Hate”towards Neyland might have been too strong, but a genuine dislike was there. Dodd did have a feud with Bryant after a longtime friendship as well.
ONLY thing I learned from the SEC Network Saturdays in the South episode for the 1960’s was that Dodd left over a dispute on a single game. Bryant begged him, thru Bill Curry, to come back, but Dodd wouldn’t. Other than that, 90% of hour and half was dedicated to Bama and civil rights in Alabama, with mentions of UGA-Dooley, Ole Miss, and about 5 minutes spent on UT, though we had some really good teams. Should have called it Saturdays in Alabama.
Yea. I found a good article about Dodd/Bryant. I’ll try to find it again and put up link.I watched the Saturdays in the South episode mentioned above by njvols and the feud with Bryant had to do with a cheap shot that a Bama player took on a Tech player that injured him permanently. This is record of games against other SEC teams, so for every win for one there was a loss for another. Not hard to grasp that.
I think this is only SEC games, but you are correct, any game against another SEC team, that was in the conference at the time the game was played counts, even if they that team has since left the conference. For example, UGA's games with GT from 1933-1963 are included. Their games from 1964-present are not. This only works if the SEC membership had been static. It has not. Additionally the SEC started as the Southern conference I believe, so those stats may or may not be included.
Just kick UGA out of the conference? That would be one way to deal with their rapid approach in our rearview.I agree. I personally would love to see GT in the conference. They are academically super, a very well ran institution, and seem to take their athletic programs serious. If they would not have left the conference, and had the cash flow that is the SEC they would certainly be better than they are today.
I wish we had teams like ; Florida St., G. Tech, Clemson, and Oklahoma. ( I personally wanted to put Texas on this list but they are so crazy about owning the state of Texas and all of their media right I personally could never see it happening. )
If the big wigs for Vandy would get behind their football program they could do some things with it. ( James Franklin proved you could win there ) They are happy, content, or satisfied with it being the bottom of the barrel year after year with their football program, but with all other sports they are very competitive.
I would love to see the SEC to shake out like this:
East:
U Kentucky
U Tennessee
U Florida
Fl. State
USCjr.
Vandy
Auburn
West:
U Alabama
U Mississippi
M. State
LSU
U Arkansas
Tex. A&M
U Oklahoma
