Ga Tech has won more games vs SEC opponents than Vanderbilt and Kentucky. All three of those schools were in the SEC when it originated in 1933. Ga Tech left the SEC around 1963 and normally only plays 1 or 2 SEC teams a year since then.

Ga Tech is 184-179-20 vs SEC teams in history.

Right, the above totals only count current members and only count games which were intra-conference at the time they were played.

I think his post was not meant for Georgia Tech to be included in your list, but as a dig at Vandy and Kentucky who have been around for 56 years longer.

I didn't take it as a dig, I was just confirming what the list was. I love the history of it all. It's interesting to think about what might have been had Georgia Tech not left the conference, big mistake on their part. I've always had sort of a soft spot for them, that whole "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" thing I guess.

More ammunition for why we've got to take the next step. As a kid, these numbers weren't even close, we were far and away the second best historical team in the conference. Now we're basically tied with UGA, LSU, UF & AU. That we've endured the last 15 years and are still second is a testament to where we were. Time to get back there. Interesting that the "expansion" teams are a combined 69 games below .500.

Biggest mistake Bobby Dodd ever made was leaving the SEC.
ONLY thing I learned from the SEC Network Saturdays in the South episode for the 1960’s was that Dodd left over a dispute on a single game. Bryant begged him, thru Bill Curry, to come back, but Dodd wouldn’t. Other than that, 90% of hour and half was dedicated to Bama and civil rights in Alabama, with mentions of UGA-Dooley, Ole Miss, and about 5 minutes spent on UT, though we had some really good teams. Should have called it Saturdays in Alabama.

Yeah this is disappointing. I knew it was close but not this close and I too remember when it wasn't close at all. To add fuel to the fire GA already took the lead this year in our head to head.

Bobby Dodd played at Tennessee, and he had a hate fued with Bear Bryant.I believe that is the reason he wanted out of the SEC.He was a great coach back in the day!!
I know. “Hate”towards Neyland might have been too strong, but a genuine dislike was there. Dodd did have a feud with Bryant after a longtime friendship as well.
