All Time NBA Players Thread - No Jordan vs. Lebron Debate Allowed

This is the play I think about when I'm picturing Stockton in a run and gun offense. No gather and puts it on the dot, giving the defender no chance because of the timing and arc. Haliburton is the only PG doing stuff like this. Jokic can, but his launch point is an unfair advantage.

a little guy making outlet passes like bill Russell is just retarded

i did not remember this about Stockton's game

i just remember old stockton, desperately shooting threes he didnt want to take because Malone's too busy choking to keep the jazz in playoff games

its kinda crazy the evolution of point guards with world class range

from Stockton who clearly didnt take enough threes
Nash who was clearly trying to figure out if he was taking too many when he wasnt taking enough
and what we've got now

During Covid when there were no sports, Bill Simmons did a cool series rewatching old games and talking about them. He had Steve Nash on to talk about the Amare Stoudemire suspension game vs. the 2007 Spurs. Nash was absolutely cooking. 24 pts off 12 shots. He had 15 assists but 8 turnovers, and during the pod Nash was just blown away by how many shots he had passed up, with the implication that he was forcing passes. It's been years, but if IIRC, he said something like that he left half a dozen open 3's on the table.

And that's crazy to consider Nash was ahead of the curve on that stuff in 2007.

Stockton could've easily averaged an extra 4-5 ppg if he were just to take the shots that the D was giving him.

Stockton was super hesitant and its just wild considering how good he was at it

i remember being a kid and hearing guys say whoever just shot has a greenlight from the coach to pull up whenever he wants, and now you go back and look at their stats and its like 2.3 - 3.4 attempts per game

Sewage…

I'm honestly shocked the NBA doesn't see him as toxic.

Every year, the Jazz social media teams post HBD to mailman and I always wanna comment but then I think of all the grandmas blissfully unaware who love Malone, and my comment would ruin their week. They can die happier not knowing the truth, my gift to them.
