All things STOCKS

When WalMart posts an earnings forecast like that, time for the Trumpster to start kicking some serious azz around DC
It really doesn’t surprise me. Where else is everyone going go to buy cheap(er/ish) home goods, groceries and everyday items? Amazon is a convenience, not a discount store, and Target is struggling from their woke adventure, mismanagement and higher prices. Wally World is a survivor. It’s with us till the apocalypse.

That is funny.

Is Costco publicly traded? If so, does anyone follow?

I don’t know many who are fans, but have two young extremely bright family members who drive 55 miles to get to a store. Obviously, they love them.

Charlie Munger had almost all of his billions invested in only Berkshire stock, CostCo (COST) stock, Li Lu’s Himalaya Capital, and real estate. Charlie was also the investment manager for Daily Journal Corporation’s (DJCO) portfolio, but the entire market cap of DJCO is only $630 million and that includes their publishing and technology businesses.

COST is a modern day Coca Cola. Own it and forget about it. CostCo’s business model is to let memberships make up all of the earnings and to just break even on everything else.

Been a rough week - keep expecting the “next” day for things to bounce back but not again today it appears

One of the Fed governors suggested that there won’t be a September rate cut. Powell speaks tomorrow at 10am. He’s unlikely to make comments that boost markets and he could easily say something to send them into a big fall. Especially if he’s petty enough to make trouble for Trump’s economic plan. More likely though, at least I hope, if he/they keep rates the same it’s because of uncertainty and they’re keeping some dry powder.

Costco is an awesome store. I now have a majority of my casual apparel from there. They sell name brand items. We have 4 kids, so it is worth buying in bulk.

I went there pretty soon after moving to Nashville, maybe 2012. I was sold. Began buying the stock, and it is the largest holding in my Roth.
I don't go any more because it is on the other side of town. Seldom need a large quantity of anything. We also have one in Mt Juliet now. I might have to make the trip.
Some people like their travel agency. There are better deals.

Costco is legit, and a huge saver if you have a larger family to feed and supply. They have fantastic deals on produce, paper goods. toiletries, and certain groceries. Their meat department is solid with some exceptional buys to be found. Good selection and prices on electronics. We have also caught deals on outdoor furniture, landscaping, plants/ shrubs, and even local gift cards to restaurants and attractions. I've heard their automotive/tire center is worth shopping, but I have not used them before.

Additionally, they have an annual cash back program for platinum members.

When you buy their tires, they offer free rotations for the life of the tires. I always buy there after my manufacturer tires need replaced.

They sell American wagyu ground beef at $6 per pound. We also buy their filets and flank steak. When they run sells on certain food items, it is amazing the price compared to the grocery store. I have Callaway, O’Neill, Hurley, Adidas, Hickey Freeman, and Lucky clothes from there in my closet. Great store.

I can find fantastic ribeyes, huge scallops, and better prices on halibut and sea bass. Their lamb T-bones are a staple at a fraction of their usual cost. At Christmas, we always have king crab legs from there, but they are a seasonal offering.

Ours now carries "American Wagyu" cuts, but I have not tried any yet.

I may have to look harder for wagyu cuts. I started buying some from a farm. I know it’s much more expensive, but we are eating more protein, and I like to treat ourselves to a nice wagyu steak every once in a while.

Also get contacts and a new pair of glasses there.

They have the real deal A5, as well, but it ain't cheap!

Agree. I would be surprised if JP announced a rate cut.

Yup, he will also say they "need more data". Plus, somehow mention tariff's which President William McKinley used starting in 1897 until his death,

Can't imagine any words flowing from J-Pow's mouth that will actually make the market go up today. Hope I am wrong.

The best scenario is that equities have taken the hit this week to adjust for the probability that the Fed will not initiate rate cuts in September. So we eventually get all of this week’s losses back whenever the rate cuts actually commence. But if/when a rate hold is announced then markets probably fall by at least this much again.

Efficient market theory at work. We went from 90-95% rate cut probability to around 70% likelihood.

Short term noise. All things construction, home building, and lending will take off when the Fed eventually cuts. Housing could stimulate the entire economy.

HD. RKT. NUE. Home builders. Although I don’t like that Rocket Companies is being controlled so much by one guy.

That wild and crazy J-Pow!

Just when I am ready to write him off as twisted negative panty boy, he gets laid in Jackson Hole, and comes out talking positive about life.
