$@&? All Them!

Interesting - didn't notice that but they were on the opposite field of where I was sitting so would not have been obvious.

He turns and claps and appears to be encouraging the offense coming off the field immediately after saying it so my thought was it was his reaction to the "no call" blowing up Dormady's chance at a TD just before half. Like " we got to beat them and the refs too."

As much slack as he has taken. He deserves to let off steam. Maybe it will **** some up so it isn't so bad

Pretty sure he's the head coach which means he has the final say. This is the same guy who kicked a field goal on the 6 inch line last year.

Anyone who buys that story has probably given money to a Nigerian prince on the internet. That was 100% directed at the fans.

Butch claims that the "F*** them all" was directed towards his coaches for deciding to go after the FG. So does he lack the veto power to overturn their decisions? I just want one press conference or answer without cliches or complete and utter BS spewing from his mouth.

And let's be real, the boos primarily came from the student section and were maybe done by 20% of the total fans in attendance. It's not a big deal for the boos to happen but he cannot handle himself like that. Period. A loss to Kentucky or Missouri causes my Neyland Stadium ban from the Dooley era until he's gone, and I'm just a student here. We have turned on him.

Shame on you for booing your team, Kenny, and for turning on them. And don't give the weak response that you were just booing or turning on the coach. They take the field together, all of them. You boo one, they all hear it. You turn your back on one, you're turning your back on all.

EDIT: For the almost certain follow-on question of, "well, what am I supposed to do if I want to show I think we need a different coach?" Here's what you do: you write a letter to the AD. Tell him in no uncertain terms how you feel. Or call their office and let them know that way. If you're a big-money booster, you might actually get the AD himself to answer your call. Either way, you can let your displeasure be known WITHOUT it hitting all 120+ people (players and coaches and staff) in the football program in a broad brush insult.

Keep in mind--you may dislike the job being done by one guy, or a handful of guys, or even 10-20 guys. But your boos and boycotts and other meat-fisted methods are hitting the other 100-115 guys who you think did nothing wrong. Guys you actually support.

So use the scalpel, not the mace, if you feel the need to protest a coach or player's performance. And leave the boos at home.

This was making the rounds on CFB radio this morning, one saying it's obvious Butch can't handle the pressure of an SEC job and the other saying he should be fired for telling fans to F OFF, said Butch needs a reminder that if not for those fans, he isn't making $4 mil a year and is making 40k as a band director.

All I will say is Butch must think fans are stupid to believe he didn't say it to the fans. BUT, I've never understood booing, especially up 35-0, that is stupid. Booing players is even worse, IMO.

I find this kind of amusing. Watch a Nick Saban press conference; practically any of them will do. He tells the media in attendance, and through them the fans, to F off all the time. He may not use the actual F bomb, but the sentiment is entirely the same.

No one's saying he ought to be fired for his attitude toward the fans and media. That's for sure. So, is it that he "can't handle the pressure of an SEC job"?

Or is it that he wins championships so can do anything he damn well pleases. I suspect the latter. Therefore, telling unruly fans to piss off is NOT a sign of inability to handle pressure; it's actually a fairly normal emotion among coaches. Butch is only getting grief for it because he lost a football game most folks thought he should've won. Period.

The boo's were uncalled for, but it was definitely not the majority that decided to partake. At the same time, no coach should leave question that his comments like that could be directed at the fans. Especially since those fans showed up and almost packed the house to support the team a week after, in my opinion, a poorly coached loss at USCe. Bad judgement by a few select folks on either side of the argument.

Yeah those 2 situations and people are different.

yes. and i'll say this...when the boos started, watching on TV, i just looked at my wife and said "that's just a- hole fans". i was laughing as i said it, because to me, it just felt like almost sarcastic in nature....like it was a pavlovian response to a bell....Butch sends out the FG team inside the 5 at the end of a half, and it's like a bell ringing demanding a predictable response.

it should have generated a chuckle from Butch too, like it did me. because on both sides, fans and the coach, the situation just didn't dictate either type of behavior.

so in this case, 2 wrongs don't make a right. the boos were stupid, but the response was equally stupid, and maybe worse. and the explanation for the response....not very good.

bottom line, you can't be the head coach here and have an adversarial relationship with the fans....and unfortunately for him, he's on that path...which is sad, because he has been good for this program up to this point.

I agree, but whether fair or not, those 'fans' are basically the paying customer. A restaurant manager can't tell customers to F off without being fired, or any other scenario you can think of where it is a public customer without major backlash. Well, except wrestling, and those people are paying people to call them names

As far as Butch and pressure, I wonder what his blood pressure is on the sidelines, I'm waiting on his head to pop off. I hope he's on meds for BP during games.

But you know he's right. If we had won the NC last year and were 9-0 today, this thread is totally different.

But......

Somewhat. Of course Saban is not emotionally responding after a 3 game losing streak when he does go off. So the situations are different and in this case the people are different.

I don't generally agree with Hyams when he just gives his opinion but I think he got this one right and it came to a head for Jones Saturday.

So UT fans booing-- something all fanbases do--is unacceptable, but the HC saying "F**** them all" on live TV is acceptable? C'mon, man! The 48-year-old face of our football program is cursing at college students and it went viral. Two wrongs don't make a right. It's a bad look for our program.

Booing is not the issue, cussing is not the issue. Being bothered by a few fans who wanted you to go for it, signs of a larger issue (thin-skinned, hyper-sensitive coach, which we've seen plenty evidence of previously) IMO

Not sure if anyone has brought this up. Ever consider that Medley needs to improve. He hasn't hit one beyond 40 that I'm aware of. Why not give the field goal team some reps?

The reason you put a Tenn. Tech on the schedule is to work on some things in a low pressure situation that will help you later when the stakes are higher. Yup, boo birds are just whiners.

I guess I need to leave this subject alone. I just don't see it as an issue. My opinion of Butch, now and in the future, will not be swayed either way by this.

It doesn't change my opinion either. I think he is a very average coach that did a very good PR job on the front end by creating excitement and saying all the right things. And I think UT knew that was going to happen when they hired him.

4 years later when some things don't work out (or bad games happen as some call it) everything else starts coming up or being rehashed. Its not the first time that has happened in sports.

Ive heard some opinions on this. Not that it mattered in the result of the game either way, but he essentially kicked an EP so I don't know that it factored in that much.

How does kicking a field goal shorter than an extra point do anything to help make one from 40+?

Yea, let's not forget technology and social media. Fuel to fire.
