4th in the East losing to the higher 3 teams by a combined 12 points. Some people picked them to finish 6th while most said 5th.
I know its a bad year for the East, but it doesn't matter. I told my dad I dont care how ugly it is, just get the win and keep all that negative energy away that follows missing another bowl. Lets get this team healthy and more experienced, and work like heck (sorry) in the offseason.
Vols have been bottom dwellers in the past, now they are knocking on the door of being in the mix of the upper half.
No one likes it but this is what it takes to SLOWLY get back to the top. The SEC is tough all around now. Its not UTs playground anymore. Its a slow process whether Butch is the guy or not. Mosst programs know this. We've simply been spoiled :)

Spoiled in the 90's, early 00's.. The SEC as a whole is 10x tougher than it was back then. We're coming though, its' just a question of how long. Still missing a few things to get back to the top. A competent OC may be one of them.

I like the thread. I believe the vols are on the way back. It just takes time with all of the coaching changes. We had a good run from Majors through Fulmer and staying on top is tough. I look for Butch to learn Tennessee football and evolve his style of offense to fit that concept. Brighter years are ahead! Go Vols! :lolabove:

REALLY!?!?! If you expect CBJ to change the way he coaches or the things he believes in just because some really old fans around here want 3 yards and a cloud of dust style football you better get back to the weed you been smoking.

If you remember back in the day when Fulmer was here everyone was really upset that he would not change his style of play. I believe it was the 1997 Orange Bowl when Nebraska said they knew what play was coming by down and distance and the formation that we lined up in. The same thing happened when Nebraska fell from the elite in college football. They refused to change from the option and the game passed them by. Tennessee could not be so lucky for the game to pass by about half of its fans that refuse to adapt to anything different. College kids want different uniforms, they want exciting people on the sidelines playing music, they want to be apart of something cool. The old Tennessee tradition simply is not cool to the new age college recruit.

The people on here who think that simply because "We are TENNESSEE" and all the top recruits should come here and we rule because of our tradition should think about putting down the bong. When discussing the top recruits, it is all about putting people into the league. Giving them a shot at huge numbers so their draft status gets higher. Pound it football is not gonna do that.

Actually take some time and study the game a little and you will see the style you want is gone! The top NCAA teams run up tempo style, the top NFL teams are starting to run up tempo style. When linebackers are as big as your OL and faster than your RB's you simply cannot line up and push people around. Even Alabama is changing their style to a more up tempo, spread the defense out style.
