All negavol/sunshine pumper debates here (split)

LOL - for real! After years of listening to their unending garbage and negativity, it's time to shine a little sunshine into their lives!!

The college football playoff committee respects our season more than some of our own fans!

Go Vols!!

The biggest difference between the committee and some VOL fans is football intelligence.

Except Alabama. And Ohio State. And USC. And all the teams we talk about that we think we should be level with in terms of prestige and tradition. We aren't rising from mediocrity. We are mediocre. Currently. Win a championship and I'll change my tune. All of the greats have done so when given the same amount of time as Jones. Next year is and will be his best opportunity to do so. The schedule lines up perfectly and Alabama will once again be reloading at some of the most important positions. He should have competed for it this year, but if he does it next year, then all his sins are absolved. All I've asked for him to do is to win the important games, and save for one, he's lost them all.

Um....we DID compete for an SEC championship this year. We finished 2nd in the East, and had we held on 4th and 14 we would have been in the SECC.

I call that competitive. Next year we should win the East, for sure. Those are reasonable expectations. This year not so much, but almost achieved anyway.

Thus far, overall I would grade this season a B.....Offense B-; Defense B+; Special Teams A-.

If a VOL fan cannot see improvement across the board then he or she is in complete denial.

8 and 4 is a fact and to dwell or discuss any other record is simply living in the woulda, coulda, shoulda world.

Here is how it goes.

"NegaVol" points out a FACT about how all is not well with Tennessee Football program.

"Sunshine Pumper", instead of arguing name calls and says "go root for another team".

It is this over and over and over and over.

PS:

Don't forget that Butch inherited the "worst dumpster fire ever in the history of sports. No other coach has EVER had to bring a team back from this far down...no other team has ever been this far down--ever, in any sport."

I don't like the monikers much...I can be negative about certain things but would probably be considered as leaning more to the positive side...generally.

It is interesting though...that, depending on which side you tend to lean, FACTS aren't nearly as cut and dry as you tend to believe or identified as EXCUSES and ignored as having any bearing or validity on the subject at hand....especially when it doesn't fit the agenda or position presented.

In the end...guess it's just the way debates, agruments, et.al. have and forever will be, but it is entertaining at times and down right frustrating on occasion as well.

This is the exact mentality I was commenting about

Nobody is disappointed in a win. That is ignorant. Nobody wishes we would have lost instead. If someone complains the score was too close or was unsatisfied with the way we played...and you think that means they would have rather lost the game...then you're the one with an issue

It means you can't stand for someone not to feel the same way as you. That circleJ*** mentality is beyond ridiculous

It sure does seem like some are disappointed with a win. Maybe its just their vernacular and they really dont feel that way.

im a big butch supporter......but i still find the term the fighting butches hilarious......who coined that phrase?

So much that is on here is so funny, even some of the worst ever said about our team is humorous. Other times what is said, sounds like what I would say about Vandy, but never about the Vols.

I'm going to share my view on the program starting from when Butch was announced the HC to now and beyond.

Year one:

When Butch Jones was announced as the head coach, I was like everyone else who collectively said "Who???". I was skeptical of the hire, so i was in wait and see mode. In that year, most reasonable people looked at the roster and expected a 5-7 year (6-6 if they had some breaks go for them). I said 6-6, but that was a heart pick as I really thought that it would be year 2 when we would go to a bowl. We would end up going 5-7. While we did unfortunately lose to Vandy, we pulled off a big upset against a top 15 South Carolina team. At the end of the year, I was still in the wait and see group, but I started to become a little more optimistic.

Year two:

One of the biggest questions people had about Butch when he was hired was " Can he recruit at an elite level in the SEC?" He answered that question with a resounding yes when he landed a top 5 class coming off a 5-7 season. Let's just say that my hope for this program grew a good amount that day. Most people expected 6-6, with the more optimistic fans thinking 7-5 and more skeptical fans saying 5-7. I thought "If Butch is the guy that can possibly bring this program back to the top in the near future, then we need to get to a bowl this year and win it." Through the ups and downs of the year, we finished 6-6 despite having one of the youngest teams in the country. We would go to the taxslayer bowl (a bowl nobody thought we would be in) and crush a decent 7-5 Iowa team. After that year, I was no longer on the wait and see side. I became convinced that Butch is the guy that will bring this program back to its glory days within the next few years.

This year:

After the bowl game and another top 5 class, the national media started to notice the progress of Tennessee. Some of them started up the hype train for the team, and named UT a preseason favorite to possibly win the SEC east and reach the SEC Championship game. This caused some fans to have an expectation of 9-3 in Year 3 (with a few people saying 10-2 if breaks go our way). Others who didn't fully buy into the media hype thought 8-4 would be really good progress, while those who were still not sold on Butch thought 7-5 or worse. I was in the 8-4 crowd, as I thought that we were still a year away from going to Atlanta. While we were just a few plays away from going to the SECCG, we finished strong down the stretch and reached 8-4 and are now going to play a good 10-2 Northwestern team in the Outback bowl.

Year 4:

I believe that this is the year that (barring injuries, suspensions, ect) we will finish 10-2, go to the SECCG, and go to a New Year's Six bowl.

To sum it all up, my view on the program today is that we are heading in the right direction and we are getting close to being back.
