Tennessee still is way behind where Tennessee should be.Realistically the wins of late have come from teams we should not even have to concern ourselves with winning, just look at Fulmer's record for that time period. You can be content but 9-4 no way.

"Go Vols"!

I saw this and thought it was interesting. Just facts here, no opinion and make of it whatever you will. A comparison of Majors' last 5 years on the Hill vs. Fulmer's past five years originally posted by UTPride on the outer board:

Johnny:
44-14-3 (75.86% wins)
2 SEC Championships
4 Bowls (Peach, Cotton, Sugar, Fiesta)
3 Bowl Wins, 1 Bowl Loss
Final Poll Results (14, NR, 5, 8, 14)

Phil:
43-20 (68.25%)
0 SEC Championships
4 Bowls (Peach, Cotton, Outback, Outback)
1 Bowl Win, 2 Bowl Losses, 1 Bowl Not Yet Played)
Final Poll Results (15, 14, NR, NR, ?)

good post VH.

I don't, however, see Fulmer's time coming to an end. The SECC don't mean to much to Hamilton as he already extended Fulmer through 2014. But... what do we know? We're just the dumb idiots that fill the stadium, and I guess in the end that is what is important.

I don't' think I would be going out on too thin of a limb to say that the SEC is much more competitive now.

Fulmer has already said his goal is to break Neyland's record for wins by a UT head coach.

Fulmer 145-45
Neyland 173-31

At Fulmer's pace of 8-9 wins a season, he should break it in 4 years. I think that's when Fulmer will retire, in 4 years.

As fans, I think we have to accept Fulmer will be around at least 3-4 more years.

I never thought that I would see the day that Tennessee would tolerate mediocrity. Apparently, losing 4 games at Arkansas is not a good thing if you ask the fanbase but losing 4 games at UT is okay to most.

god I must be getting old
Do any of you young pups actually remember Johnny Ball?
The game has changed folks. Alabama used to win every year in the 70's because the SEC used to be like the modern day Little 10. No competition, not that way anymore.
Anybody have Ole John's record against Bama handy?

I understand the expectations you are suppose to have as fans. And I think it is certainly possible for UT to become a national championship caliber team at some point. But, I think the late 90's skewed everyones view of reality. With the current landscape of the schools we compete against in the SEC, what is it that makes UT a school that "should be" the best in the league year-in and year-out? LSU, Florida, UGA all have everything UT has to offer and then some. Does that mean we cant compete with them? Absolutely not. But, does that mean its the 90's and we should "expect" to be better than them year-in and year-out because of our numerous advantages? Nope, not anymore. I think the 90's created a false sense of reality for a lot of UT fans.

yeah cause 4 losses is what would get Nutt fired.

Note: My comments do not mean we should not continue to strive to become a national title contender. It does not mean we should not make changes when it looks like we are not headed in the direction of becoming a national title contender.

His record actually got him a raise and an extension if you want to be accurate. His resignation, because he was not fired, had nothing to do with his wins and loses.

C'mon guys, it's not fair to compare CPF with Majors, or General Neyland, or Bryant or anyone else from the past. The SEC is a much different conference now than it was then, College football is different, the talent level, the personalities, most everything is different now then 10,20,40 years ago. Does that mean I like going 9-4, nope. I hate it. I'd like to go undefeated every season, who wouldn't? I would be satisfied with consistent 9 and 10 win seasons with an SEC crown every 3-4 years and a National Title every 10 or so, but I don't like the idea of other fans questioning what kind of fan I am and accusing me of "tolerating" mediocre seasons. I dont like mediocrity, I ached as much as anyone watching us lose the SEC Championship, because we had the chance to win it and we messed it up, not just Ainge, but there were many plays that could have been made to change the outcome. I am still more ticked off that we allowed Florida and bama to spank us the way we did, and why we seemed ill prepared for a mediocre Cal team. You and I and everyone here could argue point after point for days and weeks (and have for the most part) about who or what is to blame for our losses. But we are fans, die hard, orange blooded, dedicated and true fans and we take it personally when our Vols lose, and somebody has to take the blame, somebody has to pay, I understand that. I love Tennessee, Man I love the Smoky Mountains, but I love the little mountains around my home too, and I love the heritage and history, and by goodness, I love the Volunteers. To be honets, Ive rattled on to the point I dont even know where I was heading with this, but Im disappointed as anyone but so tired of all of the blame game and what shoulds, and probably coulds and we have 1 more freakin game left and I hope we lay it on some Badgers and I cannot wait for next season to begin. I love you guys and GO Vols!
