I will be anxious to hear if anyone has any feedback. I've often wondered if they are worth the price.

They make great systems but their desktops are WAY overpriced. You could save 25-50% if you built your own.

As for the notebooks, it depends on what you would use it for. For heavy gaming I'd say go for it if you got the $$. However, you can usually pick up some really good coupons on the Dell systems and save a lot. I have an HP laptop that I like but I really like tinkering w/ my computers so it's mainly for work. Getting ready to watercool my desktop! :matrix: It's getting to be an expensive hobby.

Alienware laptops are decent... but you pay way too much for it, their desktops being far worse from a price : quality standpoint. I am guessing you are wanting a laptop to game on, seeing as how this is a gaming forum... The keys therefore would be how much memory it comes with and can be put in it, the video card, and the processor. Hard drive can usually be upgraded easily, and screen size is personal preference so they arent as important as a starting point... How much are you wanting to spend? Got one game you play or want to be able to play current and future releases... Dell has some nice ones and if you look around some there are usually places that post Dell discount codes that can take 20pct off an order, some even 500 dollars off (for an order over $2,000 i think it was). To answer the question, I would peronally not recommend an alienware laptop, and *definitely* not a desktop, there is better to be had, for less, by just looking around. www.notebookforums.com can be a decent resource to browse, trying to get an idea of whats good from a min/max-er's perspective.

You could always seal your case watertight and fill it with motor oil for that l33t look... "gee pj, your computer is completely silent, AND overclocked?!?! What'd you do?" "Oh, yeah, that... I filled the case with motor oil."

Basically, don't buy one. It's not that they're bad, it's just that you're paying waaaaayyyy too much.

Don't make fun and use geek speak in the same sentence! :D My OC is pretty good but my comp sounds like a weed-eater sitting on my desk. Never seen a motor oil one but I've seen one in veg. oil. Can get smelly. I will be making it glow orange though!

I saw them do the veg oil on Tom's Hardware... motor oil would have definitely been better... for one, for the smell... but I couldn't imagine having to drain it and replace any components.

The only problem I have with a watercooled system is the excessive size.

Anyway... find a buddy that has an idea what he's doing to help you out. My desktop is speedster I put together myself... my laptop is a cheapo Acer that does EVERYTHING I want it to. :D
