Alexis Johnson at practice

I hear ya and agree with a lot of your posts, this one is just not one of them. It appears Shoop seems to think the guy is going to play sooner rather than later. I'll go along with Shoop on this one.

That's cool, hope I'm wrong, just trying to bring some balance to this. Maybe AJ gets ahead of the curve sooner or later and sees time vs VT. Just trying to throw out realistic reasons why it may be awhile before he does.

I'd wager that the way Strip wants things done and the way he coaches it differs more than just a little bit from the way AJ's JUCO d-line coach taught it. I'm not saying it's the only thing, but it's one of a handful of things that'll potentially keep him off the field longer than many think it will.

Oh, I certainly agree. My point was that unlike an offensive player or the back 7 on D, there's not a lot schemes or coverages this guy will have to digest..

Hopefully getting into decent shape will allow him to give us a few snaps in a game or two...

If you watched his JUCO highlights, he stands up high right off the snap. Strip is still trying to coach that out of Kmac. Hard to imagine Johnson being very effective in the SEC until the pad level is corrected. Besides getting into shape he has to learn proper technique which obviously takes time.

Gotcha, makes sense. Bottom line, we need Alexis to provide some depth this year at DT. Sure hope they're able to get him up to speed sooner rather than later v
