Alex Bullard Transfer

Good news that we got him, incredibly unfortunate circumstances.

Also, the ND board was really classy. Impressive. We might have had a couple negavols going crazy.

It's pathetic how everyone is saying YES!!!!!! Another OL!!!!!!! His dad, just died. Couldn't we show more empathy for the kid instead of celebrating his loss.

Who in the world is celebrating his loss?

Yea, I just assumed that if he's walking on, they must have not released him. And you're exactly right about ND. Basically scraped the dead kid off the turf and kept practicing.

You have GOT to stop "sugar coating" your posts!

It is truly a sad situation that calls Alex home, but nevertheless, I'm glad that he will be able to be close to home, and to play the sport that he loves for a team that needs him.

Prayers to the Bullard family, and full support to Alex as he dons the orange.

He is weighing 295 now. He also moved from Guard to Tackle in the spring to compete for starting tackle spot. Looks like he can play either position which is a plus.

Well, now this is pretty awesome I say.

And it does not count towards the recruiting class because he is a transfer.

Will he be a frosh or soph.?

he is in middle of redshirt freshmen year. if he is granted hardship by NCAA, he will have 3 years to play 3. If not, he will have to sit out this season and play in 2012 as a redshirt junior.

They have been working on appeal for a couple of weeks so now that he has decided to transfer I believe they are optimistic he gets to play in 2011.

If he goes on scholarship this coming year, he would count against the in comnig class like Jackson did last year. My understanding is a transfer that comes in and can play immediately counts just like an in cominghigh school recruit.

My guess is we let him walk-on for 2011 and place on scholarship in 2012 assuming he is worth it.

Anybody know how or whether he was progressing at ND? Was he on track to contribute soon?

This is wonderful! So, Richardson is the only OL we still want in this class that hasn't signed yet, is that correct?

Adding Bullard is an excellent scenario for us from a numbers standpoint. We need every warm body we can get our hands on right now as it is. Couple that with the fact that with his transfer we add to our existing O Line talent and build in more much needed depth in a key position for us, he brings 2 years of experience with him, he has 3 years left to contribute, he should contribute immediately, and doesn't count towards this year's recruiting class.

If you think about it, we could use as many transfers as we can get right now, even if they have to sit out for a season. Kind of provides a way around the issue of losing so many but being limited as to the total numbers we are allowed to bring in each year.

We need more D Line and LB's next IMO. Man, I feel like we are so close to bridging the talent gap that we have been suffering with since all these coaching changes first started, and really for a while beforehand. I believe that we legitimately will be able to field an SEC competitive quality 2 deep rotation across all positions by the 2012-2013 season!!!

Go VOLS!

Yeah. The kid's dad just died. That is such great news and wonderful fortune for "us".

Well-reasoned post.

And, just in case:
/sarcasm font

DUH!...Alex is a smart kid and he knows we all feel for the loss of his father that far exceeds football. There is nothing wrong with Vol fans encouraging him with positive comments and welcoming him back home where he belongs.

anyone know if he would be a possible starter next year ? he's transferring back home to tennesee from notre dame !! big o lineman !!

I am thinking he was #72

and never crack the 2 deep on the depth chart at notre dame.

So (imo) could add depth but i am not expecting michael oher to show up

This is a man who went to ND for academics, I would assume, as well as athletics. I am no ND fan, but I sincerely respect their program and what it means to college football and developing young men. I for one would applaud my child if he decides to attend there although I would like TN as well. In light of what's happened, I further applaud him for casting aside his dream of playing ND football in great respect for the remainder of his family. That takes a lot. I would imagine it being a very emotional time for him in addition to the loss of his father.

Welcome to Big Orange country and thanks to ND for helping develop this young man to this point of his life. For TN, I think although vastly under the radar til now, this couldn't have happened at a better time. We need him in the worst way. If he can get eligible for '11, we have shored up a great deal of the need at OL.

Thanks, ND. Thanks, Alex Bullard.
Go Vols!

Couldn't crack their 2 deep rotation. I think he will be able to here though. Jmo

I know nothing about the kid, but not cracking the two deep as a redshirt Frosh is probably not too uncommon.

Hopefully, he will at least he will provide some positives on the numbers game.

we have our starters on campus. I don't see anyone coming in and replacing the 5 guys we have coming back that started so much this year.
