Albert Haynesworth rants on AD hire

No one isn't going to be happy. I don't give a flying crap who was hired. If it was Fulmer, everyone would have been complaining about him having ZERO AD experience. If Blackburn was hired, you'd have some folks complaining that's he's an up comer and doesn't have experience at a powerhouse school. We hired Currie from K-State who has UT ties, has worked here before, and has had successs at a powerhouse school, yet we got people complaining about that. Not everyone was going to be satisfied anyway so how does Haynesworth's perspective on the hire change anything?

Personally it's just constant bickering coming from both sides cause Blackburn wasn't hired. That's all it is. I'm very pleased with the hire and wish Currie a lot of luck. At least give the guy a damn chance before you start assuming he's a bad hire.

I get that Albert is a Fulmer guy and would like to see him back at UT. But I'm not sure how not hiring Fulmer makes UT a laughingstock as Albert suggested in his twitter.

Charles Davis likes the hire of Currie and he wanted UT to hire Currie who has more experience dealing with athletic department stuff at a Power 5 university, according to a column in today's edition of the Knoxville News Sentinel.

I agree. I think hiring Fulmer would have made UT a laughingstock. Especially if or when bad times hit.

What if the new AD brought Fulmer in in some capacity (as many said that Blackburn would if hired)?

As far as I know, nobody has said that that is out of the question (though it may well be)

Dude the AD UT hired was the one that got Coach Fulmer fired...

Can't blame AH at all for the way he feels. The average Vol fan didn't know DB before any of this and they still don't.

If you want to know why our fan base is considered a joke at just look at the Poll results so far, hungry is in 2nd place and always bitter is 3rd. Maybe it's just the fans on Volnation that should be overlooked, well about 40% of us.

It could be that some are always bitter because they're hungry.

I just want to chime in here. Who cares what Haynesworth haso to say? What could he possibly know about selecting an AD? Certainly not more than anyone else here. I also see a lot of people say "K-State fans are happy to get rid of him" and that makes this a bad hire. How many on here hate Dave Hart? He has objectively done a good job, hired decent coaches, got us back in a surplus, upgraded facilities, got us a deal with Nike, etc. Yet many people still don't like him. To those people, how could currie be any worse than that? Now for Fulmer, he has zero experience being an AD. Maybe we are lucky and he can be the number 2 or something like that, but I don't think he should have been our AD. I still have a ton of respect for him as well, but that doesn't warrant a position with so many responsibilities.

Fulmer had his heart ripped out again. Football would have been in good hands with his hire.

Really? You mean the same hands that helped put it into the hole that it is just now showing signs of climbing out of? There was zero reason to hire Fulmer to run an entire athletic department.

I appreciate Albert for his contributions while playing at Tennessee, but I'm sorry to say he's a flake!

1) he says at least twice in the opening stanzas that even if the hire turns out to be a great one by the results, that doesn't matter because...

2) click the next slide to find out why.

That about sums it all up.

Is it too late to change my answer to this?

I don't think they get along since Currie was involved in removing Fulmer

They absolutely will not. According to a Hyams article on gridironow.com, one of the reasons Fulmer decided to try for the job was to specifically keep Currie from getting it.

Here are a few points from the article...

* Not all members of the search committee were aware that Currie was instrumental in having Fulmer fired in 2008 and didn’t know Currie and Fulmer have a strained relationship.

* Currie reached out to Fulmer through a phone message but Fulmer has not yet responded.

* One reason Fulmer pushed for the AD job is he didn’t want Currie to get it.

"1. John Currie has a terrible track record in his administrative experience with the Vols.

2. John Currie has a mediocre track record as athletic director of the Kansas State Wildcats.

3. There were better options than John Currie available for the Vols.

4. John Currie generates very little energy as Tennessee’s new athletic director."

Caleb Calhoun article.

Caleb Calhoun, LMAO. That guy is a joke. I can't believe that allfortennessee is still publishing his garbage. He must be related to them or something. I'd have fired him into the Tennessee River after that first hack job he posted months ago.

Well he has been a fan of UT football since Peyton Manning...........

Excuse me if I don't give the first **** what Caleb Calhoun thinks, or Haynesworth.

"Every UT fan" did not attend one interview with these candidates. We have no idea what led to this decision. None.

Not the mention that the a few kids on VN that think Phil could never do wrong, don't represent "Every UT fan".....or even close
