That was the story. The game was tied and a soph QB (freshmen didn't play then) named Kenny Stabler was not the starter but was in the game late. Bama was very deep in Tenn territory with time running out. Stabler tried to stop the clock by throwing out of bounds. Trouble was, that was fourth down. Coach Bryant wasn't thrilled, but never publicly blamed Kenny, who went on to be a great QB. Coach's public comment was, "I'm
supposed to coach them better than that."
The game ended in a 7-7 tie (1965)
